The Unarmed Security Guard is responsible for maintaining a safe, secure, and professional environment through visible patrols, policy enforcement, customer service, and timely communication with VA Police Service. This role requires continuous standing and walking throughout interior and exterior areas of the building to support visibility, deterrence, and compliance with facility policies.
Key Responsibilities
Provide exceptional customer service while maintaining a professional demeanor at all times.
Conduct hourly foot patrols of all floors and document patrol activity in the daily log.
Perform exterior patrols to monitor traffic control, waiting areas, and facility grounds.
Identify and address violations of smoking, parking, COVID-19, and other applicable facility policies, seeking voluntary compliance whenever possible.
Contact VA Police Service for assistance with ticketing, traffic accidents, disruptive individuals, suspicious activity, medical emergencies, criminal activity, or other incidents requiring police support.
Complete radio checks with Police Service at the beginning of tour, hourly during the tour, and at the end of tour.
Check building entrances and exits to ensure they are properly secured at all times.
Maintain accountability of all police radios assigned to Building 43.
Assist with proper procedures involving Category I Behavioral Flagged Veterans until VA Police Service arrives.
Before securing the building for the night, complete a full walk-through of all floors, stairwells, and bathrooms.
Prepare daily logs and incident reports in a timely manner and submit required documentation to the Security Guard Supervisor.
Required Qualifications
Ability to provide professional customer service in a security-focused environment.
Strong communication skills and the ability to report concerns clearly and promptly.
Ability to follow established policies, procedures, and post orders.
Ability to remain alert, observant, and responsive during patrols and assigned duties.
Ability to document activities, incidents, and radio checks accurately.
