Description:
POSITION PURPOSE
Assists with patient care and ED functions by patient transportation, supply, and equipment distribution and general tasks in a non-clerical nature.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Transport stable, non-monitored patients within the department and to other areas within the health care system such as diagnostic procedure areas (CT, Ultrasound, Nuclear medicine, etc.), and to inpatient units for admissions. Transport equipment within the department and to other departments of the health care center. Replaces contaminated medical wasted containers, sharps containers, linen bags, and oxygen tanks as well as maintains stock of linen cupboards, pillows, blanket warmers, wheelchairs, stretchers, and IV pumps. Delivers and returns lab specimens and x-ray films. Maintains general order and cleanliness of department and kitchen area including making coffee for guests and patient visitors. Retrieves dietary orders and assists with patient meals. Gives directions to families/visitors. Maintains current BLS certification. Assists with patient care by preparing exam rooms to receive new patients. Attends and participates in departmental meetings and continuing educational activities. Maintains good rapport and cooperative relationships. Approaches conflict in a constructive manner. Helps to identify problems, off solutions, and participates in their resolution. Maintains the confidentiality of information acquired pertaining to patient, physicians, employees, and visitors to St. Joseph Mercy Hospital. Discusses patient and hospital information only among appropriate personnel in appropriately private places. Behaves in accordance with the Mission, Vision, and Values of SJMHS. Assumes responsibility for performance of job duties in the safest possible manner, to assure personal safety and that of coworkers, and to report all preventable hazards and unsafe practices immediately to management. Takes direction of tasks requested by physicians, RN's and Tech's as needed. Maintains good rapport and cooperative relationships. Approaches conflict in a constructive manner. Helps to identify problems, offer solutions, and participate in their resolution. Maintains the confidentiality of information acquired pertaining to patient, physicians, colleagues, and visitors to St. Joseph Mercy Health. Discusses patient and hospital information only among appropriate personnel in appropriately private places. Behaves in accordance with the Code of Conduct, Service Excellence Standards, and the Mission, Vision and Values of SJMH. Assumes responsibility for performance of job duties in the safest possible manner, to assure personal safety and that of coworkers, and to report all preventable hazards and unsafe practices immediately to management.
OTHER FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Reports and transports broken equipment to the proper personnel for repair. Assists with indirect patient care including, but not limited to, sitting with patients, holding patients and/or supplies for caregivers, and transferring patients. Assists with answering phones, recording messages, and reporting messages to proper staff. Assists in training new staff members.
