The State of Connecticut Department of Children and Families (DCF) is recruiting for a dynamic and qualified individual for the position of Unit Supervisor.
POSITION HIGHLIGHTS
Please Note: This class is intended for use as a clerical supervisor where incumbents have full-time supervisory responsibility for assigned staff. Although there is no specified minimum number of subordinate staff required to qualify for use of this class, there must be a large enough staff to warrant a full-time supervisor (i.e., incumbents should not be participating in the work of subordinates except for training purposes or to assist in emergency situations). This class is not intended for one-on-one supervision. Because of the supervisory component the work performed at this level is distinctly different from that performed at the working levels or below.

PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)
In a state agency this class is accountable for supervising clerical employees involved in general clerical activities.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY
Considerable knowledge of office systems and procedures;
Skills
interpersonal skills;
oral and written communication skills;
Considerable supervisory ability;
Ability to
schedule and prioritize workflow;
read, understand and apply a variety of materials;
perform arithmetic computations;
operate office equipment which includes computers or other electronic equipment;
operate office suite software.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE
Four (4) years of general clerical experience.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - SPECIAL EXPERIENCE
Two (2) years of the General Experience must have involved a full range of general clerical duties as an Office Assistant, Interpreter Clerk or its equivalent.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - SUBSTITUTIONS ALLOWED
College training may be substituted for the General Experience on the basis of fifteen (15) semester hours equalling one-half (1/2) year of experience to a maximum of two (2) years.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Persons having responsibility for supervising or observing the behavior of inmates or custodial clients will be required to possess a high school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) certification by the time of permanent appointment.
