Upfitter Installation

American Van Equipment is looking for an upfitter who is a skilled worker who modifies, installs, and equips vehicles or equipment to meet specific customer or operational needs. Upfitters are commonly employed in industries such as fleet services, , utility trucks, commercial vans, and specialty transportation.

Typical Upfitter Job Description

Position Summary:

The Upfitter is responsible for installing, modifying, and testing equipment, accessories, and components on vehicles according to customer specifications, engineering drawings, and safety standards.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Install vehicle accessories such as:
• Shelving and storage systems
• Lighting and electrical systems
• Radios, warning lights
• Toolboxes and ladder racks
• Safety equipment
• Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and work orders.
• Perform electrical wiring, drilling, mounting, and fabrication tasks.
• Operate hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment.
• Inspect completed installations to ensure quality and compliance with specifications.
• Troubleshoot and repair installation issues.
• Maintain a safe and organized work area.
• Document completed work and materials used.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• Experience with automotive, electrical, mechanical, or fabrication work preferred.
• Ability to read wiring diagrams and technical drawings.
• Proficiency with hand and power tools.
• Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to lift and move heavy equipment (often 50 pounds or more).
