POSITION SUMMARY

The Excavation Pipe Repair Technician will work effectively with Construction Manager, Superintendent, Foreman and peers in the successful rehabilitation and repairs of a variety of water, sewer and storm water lines for production, safety, quality, and training.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Adheres to the requirements in the most current and applicable version of City of Englewood Administrative Policy Manual and/or the Englewood Employees Association Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Maintains satisfactory and harmonious relationships with the public and other employees; exhibits a high degree of professionalism, initiative, & tact on an ongoing and continual basis. Plans, organizes, schedules, supervises, and evaluates the work of the facilities maintenance staff within the division.

· Ensure quantities are verified; traffic plans, Isolation and bypass plans properly completed; verifies site conditions and ensures critical site details are documented through project management system

· Ensure construction execution complies with plans and specifications.

· Attend pre-construction and other meetings related to city projects

· In collaboration with the Construction Manager and General Superintendent and Foreman and Lead Pipelayer, communicate the work schedule to the customer as required; supervise sub-contractors and vendors on the Project Site

· Excellent teamwork and communication skills.

· Front-line employees are responsible for performing, as well as leading, training and directing the activities of a crew in the repair of underground utilities, ie: water, sewer and storm sewer.

· Effectively manage and maintain the equipment for successful completion of each project.

· Provide leadership and supervision at project sites and enforce policies and working rules.

· Continually inspect work performed by crew for quality and specification compliance.

· Perform general construction activities, when applicable.

· Analyze and resolve work problems with residents or crew members in discovering the resolutions.

· Prepare and submit for review production, safety, time, and other reports, as necessary.

 

PREPARATION AND TRAINING

Education: High school education or GED

Work Experience: Minimum 3 years of Foreman experience in an outdoor construction environment and excavation maintenance utility experience in water, sewer and Storm sewer repair preferred.

Certifications and/or Licensures: None

Required Driver’s License: Valid Colorado driver’s license and a clear or acceptable MVR, Have a CDL A or required to obtain a CDL A within 180 days; with required endorsements.

OSHA-10/Trench Safety Training

An equivalent combination of education, training and relevant job experience may be substituted.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Knowledge:

· Basic technology skills with laptop, tablets and phones, reporting daily work completed, inspections electronically.

· Water sewer and storm sewer construction experience required

· Experience with Water, Sewer and Storm Sewer Main Repair

· Excellent teamwork and communication skills.

· Able to work well in stressful situations

· Willingness to work in varying weather conditions and at different job sites as required.

· Experience with Gate Valve Repairs and Replacement

· Experience with Fire Hydrant Repairs and Replacements

· Experience with Water Taps ¾” through 2”

· Experience with Sewer and Storm Sewer Point Repairs

· Ability to properly use instruments for grade

· Assist with laying pipes, cutting pipes, and bolting pipe fittings and connections.

· Knowledge of maintenance to distribution and collection system.

· Maintain a clean and safe work site.

· Ability to work overtime, nights, weekends as needed.

· Ability to be on call (on call compensation provided)

· Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals; ability to listen and comprehend instructions accurately, processes, safety procedures, installation techniques and equipment use.

· Ability to apply common-sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form; ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

· Knowledge of maintenance to distribution and collection system.

· General labor duties

Skills and Abilities:

Computer Skills – Advanced skills needed to work in a high technology environment, work with Computerized Maintenance Management System and other computer periphery equipment.

Communication – Strong skills needed to communicate both verbally and in writing. Ability to write reports and correspondence, and give direction, guidance and informal presentations. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, other city departments/divisions, management, public officials, contractors, vendors, and the general public.

Analytical – Advanced skills needed to determine maintenance and repairs needed; resolve problems. Strong skills needed to interpret technical manuals, specifications, blueprints, schematics, and mechanical drawings.

Mechanical – Strong skills required to work with the tools and equipment used in maintenance, repair, and construction.

Mathematical – Strong skills needed to use mathematical formulas and conversion tables.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS

Work is performed in and around the distribution and collection systems, outside in all elements and work is performed at various times around the clock (days, nights, weekends, holidays).

· Walk, stand, climb, balance, stoop, crouch, bend, reach, kneel, crawl, and stretch

· Repetitive Movement (shoveling/sweeping) – Regularly

· Lifting (weights up to 75 lbs.) – Occasionally

· Lift and Carry (75lbs. for 20 feet) – Occasionally

· Push/Pull – 8 to 10 hours daily

· Ability to work in all weather conditions – day or night

 

HOURLY PAY RANGE

$28.79 - $42.74/hour
