Description & Requirements

The Team:

The UX team is responsible for uncovering insights about our users' needs and goals. We translate these insights into valuable and highly usable software solutions across a wide range of products. Through UX research and design, we accelerate our clients' access to data and insights and develop advanced user workflows. We bring deep experience in creating innovative solutions across multiple channels - desktop, web, and mobile. We continually enhance and evolve the company's pioneering software solution - the Bloomberg Terminal. In addition to the Terminal, we support other tools like premium desktop & web products and internal technology platforms. We are a team of researchers, product designers, prototypers, and technical writers who partner with product and technology to make our design vision into reality!

The Role:

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated UX Team Leader who will be responsible for leading a team of designers for one of Bloomberg's business verticals. As a team leader, you will be responsible for setting team strategy, balancing near-term delivery needs with setting longer-term direction, and working closely with Product, Engineering, & senior leaders to successfully drive delivery, outcomes, & impact. You will also drive strategic UX department initiatives, define new team processes & practices, and mentor, inspire, and coach team members to reach their full potential.

As a hands-on UX leader, you will need to have strong design skills to be able to contribute & uphold quality in the team's initiatives. You should have a passion for making complex systems intuitive and valuable, and a proven ability to drive clarity through ambiguity. You will closely partner with end users and subject matter experts and take ownership of a domain to envision and craft conceptual frameworks, interaction design, and the overall user experience of new products and major enhancements.

We'll trust you to:

  • Use your analytical and conceptual thinking to translate user needs, business objectives and technology capabilities into innovative design solutions
  • Lead all aspects of the design process from customer research using qualitative and quantitative methods, conceptualizing, storyboarding, detailed design and working with engineering teams on implementing designs
  • Collaborate with business teams to adopt a user centered process and ground design decisions in a detailed understanding of the customer's workflow and needs. This would include conducting workshops with business teams, subject matter experts, and engineering. Additionally, collaborating with engineers to support the build of products as per design specifications
  • Build Partnerships with cross-functional partners & identify areas to up-level the team's impact continuously

We are looking for an excellent collaborator, self starter, and someone with a growth mindset - we are all still learning and we expect you to as well.

You'll need to have:

  • 2+ years experience as a UX people manager with an ability to demonstrate leadership through hands-on design work when appropriate
  • 4+ years of experience as a UX or Product designer (individual contributor)
  • A Bachelor's or Graduate Degree in HCI, Interaction Design, Information Architecture, Visual Communication, or any design-related field
  • A track record of applying common User-Centered Design practices, including conducting user research to tackle tough design problems. This also includes strong communication skills to advocate for the user's needs throughout the process.
  • Experience with designing complex user workflows, decision-support systems, large dataset visualizations and framework-level patterns, information architecture, graphic/visual design, usability research/analysis
  • Project management skills to see projects through the design lifecycle from start to release. This includes the ability to independently identify what information you need and execute a plan to gather and synthesize it.
  • Experience developing design team members

We'd love to see:

  • Experience in the institutional finance domain and capital markets industry
  • Knowledge or Experience of AI platforms, the software engineering domain, & engineering tools

Portfolio:

We are interested in reviewing two of your design projects for this position. We would like to see artifacts from across the project lifecycle to describe this project from start to end. This may include, but should not be limited to: research, personas, sketches, user journeys, task flows, wireframes, storyboards, etc. In addition to your project process artifacts, we are interested in seeing detailed wireframes illustrating a step-by-step user workflow for solutions that solve complex problems or opportunities. We would like to see how your process informed design choices that you made.
