UX engineer

The UX engineer is responsible for ensuring that Maad's products meet the needs of its core users: field agents (like drivers, warehouse workers, sales agents) and boutiquiers. This person will own the product experience of our mobile apps and make structured recommendations to improve the user experience. S/he will also be a core contributor to up to three codebases: Android (Java), Cross-Platform App (Flutter JS), Web (NodeJS). This person should have a technical mindset, with a great passion for the end user. We are looking for someone who is curious about others' perspectives, a great storyteller, and eager to take these learnings and act on them: making our software products better as a result. This person should have a university degree in a technical subject (ideally, computer science, UX, design, etc). S/he must speak fluent French, with the ability to run interviews in Wolof, and the ability to read and write in English. Some Peulh proficiency is a bonus. We would like to see a portfolio of screenshots from past work: from university, work, or personal projects. Responsibilities: Product development Intermediate knowledge of Javascript or Java (ideally both) At least 1-3 years of software development experience Can self-manage as an independent contributor Design work Create mock-ups and wireframes of new user interfaces Develop visual style guides and color palettes User research Organize field studies to address questions of app usage for boutiquiers Shadow field agents to better understand their daily workflows Create reports and presentations summarizing their findings Work Schedule: This is a full-time, partially remote position. This person will have flexibility in their day-to-day work setting and hours, with requirements to periodically meet with surveyors to run user research studies or make in-person presentations to the Maad leadership team.
