Veale Rockwall Student Worker

The Veale Rockwall Student Worker is responsible for creating a safe, welcoming, and organized environment for all patrons using the CWRU Rockwall. Student workers should greet patrons upon arrival, confirm that new or unfamiliar climbers have completed the required waiver using the QR Code, and assist patrons with selecting and properly fitting climbing shoes and harnesses. Student workers also explain the route board and basic wall procedures, belay patrons who wish to top-rope, spot boulderers, answer questions, and actively monitor the facility to ensure climbers are using the wall and equipment safely.

In addition to patron support, student workers are responsible for the daily operation and upkeep of the Rockwall. This includes signing in and obtaining the wall keys, ensuring the access door is properly secured, organizing and disinfecting climbing shoes, returning harnesses and belay equipment to their designated locations, and inspecting ropes and other gear for wear or damage. Student workers should report or remove from use any equipment that appears unsafe or is not functioning properly. Ropes should be properly secured at the end of each shift and periodically inspected for fraying or other signs of damage.

Student workers are also expected to maintain a clean, organized, and professional climbing environment. Responsibilities include sweeping the wall area and underneath mats, wiping down surfaces, keeping equipment and work areas tidy, and bringing dirty towels to the Issue Room to be washed daily. The ideal candidate is attentive, safety-conscious, dependable, and comfortable interacting with a diverse range of climbers while helping maintain the Veale Rockwall as a welcoming and well-maintained CWRU recreation facility. This position is compensated at an hourly rate of $15.40 per hour.
