    Job Description

    Salary Range: $70,000 - $80,000

    General Description:

    The Vehicle Maintenance Supervisor supports the Vehicle Maintenance Superintendent by coordinating and supervising the daily activities of Vehicle Maintenance Technicians. This position ensures preventive and corrective maintenance tasks are completed safely, efficiently, and according to established standards. The Supervisor assists the Superintendent with implementing maintenance programs, documenting activities, and supporting contract, safety, and operational requirements.

    Responsibilities/Essential Functions:

    • Assist in establishing procedures, schedules, and documentation for vehicle maintenance programs.
    • Support the development of asset management and preventive maintenance systems such as Trapeze EAM.
    • Participate in vehicle handovers from contractors, including inspections, documentation, and movement of vehicles through facilities.
    • Contribute to the procurement and preparation of tools, benches, and equipment needed for maintenance.
    • Supervise Vehicle Maintenance Technicians by assigning tasks, monitoring progress, and ensuring work meets quality and safety standards.
    • Provide technical guidance on maintenance procedures, troubleshooting, and proper use of tools and equipment.
    • Verify completion of work orders and ensure accurate documentation of labor, materials, and results in the electronic asset management system.
    • Conduct routine inspections of vehicles, equipment, and tools to ensure operational readiness and regulatory compliance.
    • Support the Superintendent by monitoring maintenance indicators, identifying recurring issues, and assisting with preventive maintenance initiatives.
    • Ensure maintenance areas are stocked with necessary materials and that tools and equipment are properly maintained.
    • Assist in overseeing subcontracted services related to vehicle cleaning, corrective maintenance, or technical support.
    • Enforce safety procedures and administrative rules to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
    • Respond to vehicle related emergencies and provide direction to technicians in implementing corrective actions.
    • Provide input on maintenance improvements and staff performance.
    • Serve as acting lead in the Superintendent’s and Manager’s absence for routine operations.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

    • Working knowledge of rail or fleet vehicle systems, including electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and HVAC systems.
    • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, OEM manuals, and technical documentation.
    • Skilled in diagnosing, troubleshooting, and repairing complex vehicle systems.
    • Ability to train/instruct staff on procedures, safety protocols, and proper use of tools/equipment.
    • Strong organizational and time management skills for coordinating multiple priorities.
    • Familiarity with asset/work order systems (e.g., Trapeze EAM or equivalent).
    • Ability to communicate effectively with technicians, contractors, and management.
    • Proficiency in using diagnostic software and office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
    • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with diverse teams.

    Physically:

    • Stand, walk, and sit for extended periods of time.
    • Climb stairs, bend, reach, and occasionally work in confined spaces.
    • Lift, carry, or move objects up to 50 pounds.

    Additional/Miscellaneous/Special Requirements:

    • Acceptable criminal history record check upon hire which must be maintained throughout employment.
    • Acceptable drug screen results upon hire and as regularly required by policy for position.
    • Acceptable driving record upon hire which must be maintained throughout employment.
    • Valid state driver’s license required; Class A CDL highly preferred.
    • Ability to work in varying environmental conditions including outdoors, inclement weather, noisy environments, and near moving mechanical systems.
    • Ability to wear and correctly use required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
    • Must be willing to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.
    • Must be able to respond to emergencies on a 24/7 basis.

    Education and Experience:

    • Associate’s Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or related technical field preferred.
    • Minimum of three (3) years of vehicle maintenance experience, including at least one (1) year in a lead, or supervisory role.
    • Hands-on experience with troubleshooting and repair of complex vehicle systems required.
    • Familiarity with diagnostic software and electronic documentation systems required.
