Job Description

Veterinary Assistant

Coventry Animal Hospital | Coventry, RI

$22-$28/hour | Full-Time | 4-Day Schedule

Are you looking for more than a traditional wellness-focused GP? Coventry Animal Hospital offers a fast-paced, full-service environment where you can continue building your skills while working alongside an experienced veterinary team.

What You'll See Here

This AAHA-accredited, 7-doctor hospital primarily cares for dogs and cats and offers a wide range of medicine, including:

• Wellness and preventive care

• Diagnostics and advanced medical cases

• Surgery and dentistry with dental radiographs

• Urgent care and hospitalized patients

• Ultrasound

• Emergency procedures and stabilization

• Complex surgical cases, including pyometra, foreign bodies, cystotomies and amputations

• Weekly visits from internal medicine and cardiology specialists

• Monthly visits from a board-certified surgeon

This isn't just a vaccine-and-wellness GP. You'll have access to surgery, dentistry, ultrasound, advanced diagnostics, hospitalized cases and specialist consultation, giving you plenty of opportunities to expand your clinical skill set.

What We're Looking For

We're looking for a Veterinary Assistant with at least 1 year of veterinary clinic experience who is:

• Comfortable collecting patient histories

• Confident discussing vaccines and preventatives with clients

• Proficient with blood draws

• Skilled in patient restraint and handling

• Comfortable administering oral, topical and injectable medications

• Interested in surgical training and expanding their skills

• Hardworking, dependable and eager to learn

Surgical experience is a plus, but we're willing to train the right person who brings a strong work ethic, willingness to learn and a team-focused attitude.

Schedule

Tuesday-Friday, 8:00 AM-6:00 PM

35-40 hours per week

Your Impact as a Veterinary Assistant

• Provide Essential Patient Care: You'll be a key player in the health of our patients, assisting the medical team with hands-on care and ensuring every animal is treated with compassion and respect.
• Be the Go-To Support for the Medical Team: You'll be the backbone of the clinic, anticipating the needs of veterinarians and technicians to ensure a smooth, efficient, and collaborative workflow.
• Create a Positive Client Experience: You'll help create a seamless visit for our clients by assisting with scheduling, payments, and communications, always with a courteous and informative approach.
• Ensure a Safe and Clean Environment: You'll take pride in maintaining the hospital, performing clinic upkeep and equipment maintenance to uphold our high standards of care.

What You'll Bring to the Team

• A High School Diploma or equivalent.
• A calm and efficient approach, with the ability to handle a fast-paced and sometimes stressful environment with composure.
• Confidence and skill in handling pets of all sizes and temperaments.
• Strong organizational and communication skills.
• Proficiency in fundamental veterinary skills ranging from laboratory and pharmacy to nursing and radiology is a strong asset.
