Job Description

Lead a high-impact, multi-site veterinary team in the Hudson Valley with total compensation up to $190,000. An experienced veterinary leader is sought in Kiryas Joel, NY for a hands-on, hospital-based role focused on medical excellence, people development, and client experience.

The Hospital
This small-animal general practice operates inside a high-traffic retail setting, providing strong client accessibility and a steady, varied caseload. The hospital delivers preventive care, routine and soft-tissue surgery, dentistry with dental digital X-rays, medical evaluations across dermatology, GI, and orthopedic concerns, and compassionate end-of-life support. On-site diagnostics include digital radiography and an in-house laboratory for rapid results, supported by an in-house pharmacy and convenient prescription options. Additional services such as supervised medical grooming, microchipping, nutrition counseling, behavior evaluations, and drop-off appointments round out comprehensive care. The team structure includes veterinarians, credentialed technicians, veterinary assistants, client service associates, and practice leadership, all working within a collaborative, inclusive environment. Early opening times on select weekdays and weekend availability support client needs and give candidates schedule variety.

The Role
- Full-time, hospital-based, hands-on leadership role with a blend of clinical and administrative responsibilities
- Lead, mentor, and develop veterinarians and clinical teams; build engagement and retention through coaching, feedback, and career growth
- Uphold consistent medical quality and patient safety; review medical records, conduct quality audits, and guide continuous improvement
- Provide clinical care as needed, including preventive medicine, routine surgery, and dentistry
- Serve as the designated responsible veterinarian for permits as required; ensure controlled substance compliance and accurate inventory oversight
- Partner with practice management to achieve operational and client experience goals; analyze KPIs and implement action plans
- Oversee onboarding and structured coaching for newly hired doctors; support growth in clinical, surgical, and dental skills
- Participate in veterinary talent recruitment and provide an excellent experience for externs and candidates
- Address client concerns related to medical care in a timely, solutions-focused manner
- Manage medical equipment requests and maintenance in collaboration with leadership
- Ensure compliance with all applicable regulations, including radiation safety and recordkeeping
- Schedule may include early mornings or weekends consistent with hospital hours; travel between nearby sites may be required

Requirements
- DVM/VMD degree from an accredited institution
- Active license (or eligibility) to practice veterinary medicine in New York by start date
- Eligibility to work in the United States
- DEA registration (or eligibility) and thorough knowledge of controlled substance regulations
- Proven experience in small-animal general practice; prior leadership or multi-site oversight strongly preferred
- Proficiency in routine surgery and dentistry
- Strong communication, coaching, and conflict-management skills
- Comfortable in a fast-paced, client-centered, retail-based clinical environment
- Willingness to travel between local sites as needed and maintain a valid driver’s license
