About the Role

Maple Tree Veterinary Hospital is looking for an experienced Practice Manager to lead the business side of our small animal practice. You'll work as an equal partner with our Medical Director: they lead the medicine, you lead the business. Both of you report directly to ownership.

This is a true leadership role with real authority. You'll own operations, HR, payroll, and finance, and you'll build the structure, accountability, and culture that let our team do its best work. What You'll Do

Lead operations

• Oversee day-to-day business operations across the entire practice
• Directly supervise our Hospital Manager and Camp Manager, along with their departments and our administrative staff
• Create and maintain clear policies, procedures, and reporting lines
• Resolve escalated issues and clear obstacles so our team can focus on patients and clients

Own HR

• Hold full HR authority, including hiring, termination, and policy decisions
• Manage onboarding, employee records, and the employee handbook
• Oversee performance management, compensation structure, and discipline
• Keep us compliant with employment law while building a fair, consistent, positive workplace
• Develop our management team and foster a healthy practice culture

Run payroll and finance

• Own the budget, P&L, and overall financial performance of the practice
• Oversee payroll and approve timekeeping
• Manage AP/AR, financial controls, and reporting to ownership
• Find opportunities to improve efficiency and profitability
• Oversee major vendor contracts, purchasing, and capital expenditures with ownership

Manage compliance and risk

• Ensure compliance with OSHA, employment, controlled-substance, and other regulations
• Maintain insurance, licensing, and required postings
• Oversee facilities, safety, and risk management

Shape strategy

• Partner with the Medical Director to align business operations with clinical goals
• Advise ownership on operations, finances, and strategic decisions
• Lead practice-wide process improvement and growth initiatives
• Set goals for the management team and hold them accountable for results

What You Bring

Required

• Several years of management experience, ideally in a veterinary or healthcare practice
• Proven leadership across operations, HR, and finance
• Strong financial literacy, including budgeting and P&L management
• Working knowledge of employment law and HR best practices
• Excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving skills

Nice to have

• Experience as a practice manager or in a comparable leadership role
• Certified Veterinary Practice Manager (CVPM) credential or equivalent
• Proficiency with practice management and financial software (EzyVet experience a plus)

The Work Environment

This is an on-site role in a veterinary hospital and office setting, so expect noise, odors, and animals of all temperaments. You'll interact constantly with staff, clients, doctors, ownership, and vendors. The role requires lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs unassisted (more with help), sitting, standing, and moving through the practice for extended periods, and operating a computer, phone, and standard office equipment.

• Salary of $70,000–$90,000 per year, based on experience
