Veterinary Technician- Anesthesia 

Compensation: $35–$50/hour, based on experience and qualifications

VERG Brooklyn is looking for an experienced Veterinary Technician for Anesthesia to join our team. In this dynamic role, you’ll support cases in Emergency, Critical Care, Cardiology, Internal Medicine, Oncology, Surgery, Radiology, and Neurology that require sedation or general anesthesia. You will work closely with our board-certified anesthesiologists to implement tailored anesthetic plans that prioritize patient well-being and safety as they undergo medical and surgical procedures and diagnostic testing under sedation or general anesthesia.

Key Responsibilities

• Anesthetic Management: Support all clinical services by implementing tailored drug protocols developed by our board-certified anesthesiologists, managing sedation and general anesthesia, and maintaining gold-standard monitoring for diverse patient populations.
• Clinical Equipment & Troubleshooting: Safely operate, maintain, and troubleshoot specialized anesthetic and monitoring equipment.
• Patient Handling: Safely handle, restrain and care for patients weighing up to 50 pounds.  
• Teaching & Mentorship: Guide, train, and support junior technicians, assistants, and interns on sedation and anesthetic monitoring, equipment operation, and best clinical practices.
• Interdepartmental Support: Serve as a knowledgeable clinical resource for hospital staff and veterinary trainees regarding sedation and anesthesia monitoring.

Qualifications 

This role will primarily focus on managing anesthesia cases while providing comprehensive anesthetic support across VERG’s specialty services.

Education and Experience:

• Credentials: Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Veterinary Technology from an AVMA-accredited institution. Must possess (or be eligible for) a New York State Veterinary Technician license or permit. If eligible for licensure, must be licensed within 1 year of employment.
• Experience: Minimum of 2 years of clinical LVT experience required. Prior experience in anesthesia, emergency/critical care, surgery, or a referral setting is strongly preferred.
• Professional Attributes: Calm under pressure, self-motivated, capable of working both independently and collaboratively with a high-volume team. Strong communication skills to build positive relationships with staff, clients and referring veterinarians preferred.

We offer structured training and mentorship from our board-certified anesthesiologists to help you master advanced anesthetic care, including dedicated mentorship and case logs for LVTs interested in pursuing their Veterinary Technician Specialist (VTS in Anesthesia and Analgesia) certification.

Because VERG Brooklyn cares for patients 24 hours a day, seven days a week, scheduling flexibility is important. This position may include evenings, weekends, and holidays. Available schedules will be discussed during the interview process.
