Vice President of Finance

We are seeking a strategic and hands-on Vice President of Finance to lead the company’s finance and accounting functions within a civil construction environment. This role will partner closely with ownership, executive leadership, and operations to drive financial performance, improve project visibility, and build scalable financial systems and processes.

The VP of Finance will oversee financial planning and analysis, accounting operations, reporting, forecasting, cash flow, and project financial performance. A key focus will be leveraging technology, data, and automation to improve the efficiency of the finance function and provide leadership with timely, actionable financial insights.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the company’s finance and accounting functions, providing strategic financial guidance to ownership and executive leadership

• Oversee accounting operations, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, cash flow, and financial controls
• 
  
• Lead and develop the accounting team, providing direction, accountability, and process leadership
• 
  
• Oversee month-end and year-end close processes and ensure accurate, timely financial reporting
• 
  
• Develop and manage annual budgets, forecasts, financial models, and ongoing variance analysis
• 
  
• Provide financial oversight of civil construction projects, including job costing, WIP, project profitability, billing, and cost tracking
• 
  
• Partner closely with project managers and operations leadership to improve project financial performance and accountability
• 
  
• Develop and enhance financial dashboards, KPIs, and reporting to provide leadership with meaningful business insights
• 
  
• Identify financial trends, risks, and opportunities and translate data into actionable recommendations
• 
  
• Oversee cash flow forecasting, working capital, and liquidity management
• 
  
• Evaluate and improve financial processes, internal controls, workflows, and reporting
• 
  
• Lead initiatives to automate and streamline accounting and finance processes
• 
  
• Serve as a key business owner for the company’s ERP and financial systems
• 
  
• Identify opportunities to improve system functionality, integrations, data flow, and reporting
• 
  
• Support ERP upgrades, system implementations, integrations, and other finance technology initiatives
• 
  
• Improve the quality, accessibility, and timeliness of financial data across finance, project management, and operations
• 
  
• Partner cross-functionally to improve financial visibility, operational efficiency, and profitability
• 
  
• Oversee relationships with external accounting, tax, audit, banking, and other financial partners
• 
  
• Support strategic growth initiatives and provide financial analysis for major business decisions
• 
  

Qualifications

• 
  
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field
• 
  
• 10+ years of progressive finance and accounting experience, preferably within civil construction or another project-based industry
• 
  
• Previous experience as a VP of Finance, CFO, Controller, Assistant Controller, or senior finance leader
• 
  
• Strong understanding of project-based financial management, including job costing, WIP, project profitability, and forecasting
• 
  
• Experience overseeing a full accounting and finance function
• 
  
• Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting
• 
  
• Demonstrated experience with budgeting, forecasting, FP&A, cash flow management, and financial analysis
• 
  
• Strong ERP and financial systems experience with a demonstrated ability to improve processes and system functionality
• 
  
• Advanced Excel skills and experience with financial reporting, data analysis, and business intelligence tools
• 
  
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to turn financial data into actionable business insights
• 
  
• Ability to communicate effectively with both financial and non-financial leaders
•

• Experience implementing, upgrading, or optimizing ERP/accounting systems

• Experience integrating financial systems with operational or project management platforms

• Experience with Power BI, Tableau, or similar business intelligence tools

• Experience building automated financial reporting and dashboards

• Demonstrated success improving finance processes through technology and automation

• CPA, MBA, or other relevant professional designation
