VISTA Volunteer-Capacity Building & Community Engagement

The VISTA Volunteer connects local networks to national policy actions by supporting NCH to build toolkits, educational resources, and partnerships. You will empower local leaders in housing justice and expand BAHN. Key Responsibilities 1. Toolkit & Resource Creation Design Action Toolkits: Build guides for local communities to host rallies, contact officials, and lead BAHN initiatives. Simplify Complex Ideas: Turn complex policies into accessible public flyers and guides. Build Digital Libraries: Create an online hub for partners to access graphics, talking points, and training materials. 2. Policy Briefs & Research Write Policy Briefs: Draft concise summaries on housing, civil rights, and health. Spot Local Trends: Monitor municipal housing approaches and report effective solutions. Share Fact Sheets: Produce quick-reference sheets for housing leader-representative meetings. 3. Community Outreach & Partnerships Expand Network: Invite local shelters, food banks, and Social Justice groups to join BAHN. Support Local Leaders: Partner with individuals with lived experience to lead outreach and recruitment. Host Webinars: Organize workshops with Field Offices on utilizing toolkits and policy briefs. Qualifications Creative Visual Storyteller: Skilled in design tools like Canva/Adobe Creative Suite to create flyers, resource packets, and toolkit guides. Social Media Manager: Experienced in managing communities on Instagram, Facebook, and X (Twitter), creating content calendars, writing captions, and analyzing post performance. Strong Writer: Able to write clearly for diverse audiences, including officials and community members. People Person: Comfortable conducting outreach and fostering professional relationships. Passionate In Alleviating Poverty: Committed to the principle that safe, affordable housing is a basic human right. Member Duties : Overall Project Goal The VISTA Volunteer will build organizational capacity, volunteer networks, and communications for the Bring America Home NOW (BAHN) Initiative to address root causes of poverty and homelessness. Key Responsibilities & Objectives 1. Grassroots Network: Build partner tracking systems and outreach toolkits to recruit nonprofit and housing allies. 2. Speaker Bureau: Standardize training and booking for the Faces of Homelessness speaker program. 3. Digital Engagement: Create digital media assets, action kits, and metrics to expand public outreach. 4. Sustainability: Develop operational handbooks and train staff to ensure long-term program continuation. Key Focus Area Highlights A VISTA Volunteer supports the BAHN core pillars: Housing & Health Justice: Promoting housing and healthcare as basic human rights. Economic & Civil Rights: Champion living wages and protecting unhoused individuals from criminalization.
