Position OverviewVolunteering is key, and your time truly makes a difference. Safer Foundation is seeking dedicated Volunteer Tutors to support individuals within correctional facilities on their path to successful reentry. As a tutor, you will help participants strengthen literacy, develop workforce skills, and work toward earning their High School Equivalency (HSE) Diploma.
This is a unique opportunity to gain meaningful insight into the corrections environment while positively impacting lives through education.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide one-on-one or small group tutoring in literacy, math, and basic education
- Support participants in preparing for the High School Equivalency (HSE) exam
- Assist learners in building essential job readiness and workplace skills
- Encourage confidence, perseverance, and goal-setting among participants
- Follow Safer Foundation guidelines and maintain a respectful, supportive learning environment
- Track tutoring progress and communicate with program staff as needed
Volunteer Commitment
- Serve 2–4 hours per week on a consistent schedule
- Commit to a minimum service period (as defined by program needs)
- Participate in required training and orientation sessions
Training & Support
- Volunteer Tutor Training is provided
- Ongoing support from Safer Foundation staff
- Exposure to the corrections system and reentry process
