WAN Test Engineer

Job Title: WAN Test Engineer
Location: Fairfax, VA

Type: Contract
Compensation: $100 - $120 per hour

Own the acceptance testing effort for a government-contracted wide area network deployment. You'll take the test program from initial planning through customer review and approval, then develop and execute the procedures needed to validate system requirements. This role works closely with both the customer and engineering teams, documenting results, addressing questions, and driving resolution of any issues uncovered during testing.

Responsibilities

• Hands-on with packet capture, traffic analysis and tool based network testing
• Own the WAN acceptance test plan and respond to customer comments through approval
• Develop Factory and Site test procedures covering all test and demonstration requirements, take them through peer review and revision, and deliver as contract deliverables
• Run draft procedures on factory equipment, then conduct dry runs and runs for record with QA and customer witness
• Own verification by Inspection and Analysis: review program documents and supplier data, document compliance, and produce analysis reports
• Write test reports, route them through internal review, submit to the customer, and address comments
• Contribute to functional configuration development and implement test automation where it can be leveraged

Requirements:

• 5+ years of network or test engineering experience.
• Experience with WAN testing, FAT/SAT procedures, and acceptance testing.
• Strong packet capture and traffic analysis skills (Wireshark or similar).
• Experience creating test plans, procedures, reports, and compliance documentation.
• Knowledge of TCP/IP, routing, switching, and network troubleshooting.
• Customer-facing experience supporting formal test events and reviews.
• Government, DoD, or defense contractor experience preferred.
• Test automation experience preferred.
