Warehouse Assistant Manager

DSG is seeking a 3rd shift Warehouse Assistant Manager in our Plymouth, MN location. In this full time, salaried position, work typically ranges between the hours of 9:30pm and 6:30am, Sunday through Thursday (works into Friday morning), but may vary on occasion according to business needs. As a Warehouse Assistant Manager, you will be responsible for supporting the overall operations of the warehouse, including overseeing the day-to-day activities of warehouse staff and drivers while ensuring the smooth and efficient functioning of warehouse processes. This role involves managing a team (up to 8 employees), ensuring that operations meet quality standards, safety regulations, and company objectives. The 3rd shift Assistant Warehouse Manager will also collaborate with the Warehouse Manager and/or Branch Manager to implement improvements, enhance productivity, and maintain high operational standards.

A Typical Day in the Life of a 3rd Shift Warehouse Assistant Manager at DSG:

  • Oversees all overnight workflow to ensure efficiency and timely completion of tasks, including transfers, cross-docking, order fulfillment, and unloading/loading trucks for early morning deliveries.
  • Plans and routes trucks for early morning Metro deliveries.
  • Reports overnight issues to the next shift lead and any other relevant stakeholders.
  • Directly supervises up to 8 warehouse employees, ensuring tasks are completed accurately and efficiently.
  • Conducts performance reviews and administers disciplinary actions when necessary.
  • Provides coaching, training, and ongoing support to improve employee performance and professional growth.
  • Understands team members' career goals and facilitates opportunities for upskilling and advancement.
  • Ensures relevant information is communicated clearly and promptly to direct reports.
  • Enforces safety protocols, promotes safety awareness, and ensures compliance with all regulations.
  • Troubleshoots operational challenges and acts as the primary contact for overnight operations issues.
  • Recommends measures to improve efficiency, working conditions, and overall warehouse performance.
  • Ensures tools and equipment are available and functioning; reports issues to the Branch/Warehouse Manager.
  • Provides courteous, prompt, and efficient service to customers.
  • Leads by example in safety-conscious behavior and ensures all incidents are documented and reported.
  • Ensures adherence to all company procedures and policies.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

A Successful 3rd Shift Warehouse Assistant Manager Typically Has:

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in warehouse operations, and a strong background in distribution (within the Twin Cities Metro preferred).
  • Experience in a supervisory/leadership role.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate a team of employees.
  • A strong understanding of supply chain demands as they relate to warehousing.
  • Safety training on material handling and forklift driving.
  • Strong interpersonal, customer service, and communication skills.
  • Physical ability to lift up to 60 lbs. on a regular basis, and up to 100 lbs. on an occasional basis.
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
