    Job Description

    Responsibilities:

    Mead & Hunt, a nationally recognized professional services consulting firm, is seeking a full-time, limited-term Wastewater Engineering Intern to join our Greenhouse Gas Reduction Engineering Team in our West Allis, WI office.This team helps clients meet sustainability and environmental goals through the planning, process design, and implementation of industrial water/wastewater treatment systems, waste-to-renewable energy systems, anaerobic digestion, and resource recovery projects.

     

    This internship is anticipated to begin in May/June 2027 and continue through August/September 2027.

     

    This position offers an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience working on meaningful, real-world wastewater treatment and renewable energy projects for clients across the country. Interns work directly with experienced engineers and gain exposure to project planning, process selection, design, and construction-phase activities. Projects may include municipal and industrial wastewater treatment, anaerobic digestion, biogas utilization, renewable natural gas (RNG), resource recovery, and other sustainability-focused infrastructure projects. There is also potential for this internship to transition into a full-time engineering position upon graduation.

     

    Responsibilities include:

    • Assisting engineers with the design and delivery of wastewater and renewable energy projects.
    • Conducting project and technology-related research.
    • Compiling, organizing, and analyzing technical, operating, and laboratory data.
    • Assisting with process calculations, equipment sizing and selection, and design development for wastewater treatment and renewable energy projects.
    • Assisting with the development of technical evaluations, reports and other project documentation and engineering deliverables.
    • Communicating with equipment and technology vendors; reviewing and evaluating vendor information.
    • Collaborating with engineers, project managers, and other project team members.
    • May include visiting client facilities and project sites to collect field information, observe construction progress, and support project-related field activities.
    • Developing technical skills with mentorship and guidance from experienced engineers.
    • Performing other duties as assigned. 

     

    The successful candidate must have:

    • Completed at least two (four preferred) semesters of college-level coursework in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Biochemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.

     

    The preferred candidate will have:

    • Previous industrial internship, co-op, or related work experience
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills
    • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
    • Ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams
    • Enthusiasm for learning, professional growth, and developing technical skills
    • Initiative, curiosity, and a willingness to seek feedback

     

    Physical Requirements:

    Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; use hands to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
