Water & Sewer Pipeline Construction Technician

Location: Newport News, VA

Role at a Glance

• Install and maintain underground piping systems for water, sewer, and related utilities.
• Translate blueprints and specs into accurate, on-grade installations.
• Work outdoors with a team to deliver safe, efficient results.

Core Responsibilities

• Excavate trenches and prepare work areas for pipe installation.
• Lay, fit, and align pipes to correct line and grade.
• Make utility connections to mains, sewer lines, and other systems.
• Conduct routine inspections and basic maintenance on installed sections.
• Coordinate tasks with crew members and partner trades to meet schedules.
• Follow safety standards and maintain a neat, hazard-free site.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent (vocational training a plus).
• Prior experience in pipelaying or general construction preferred.
• Knowledge of piping materials and installation methods.
• Ability to read blueprints and technical drawings.
• Physical endurance; able to work in varied outdoor weather.
• Strong teamwork and communication skills.
• Valid driver’s license with reliable transportation.
