Seattle Public Utilities (SPU) is seeking a professional Water Systems Supervisor to oversee the 24-hour operation of the Operations Control Center which monitors and controls the regional water system.

Job Responsibilities

  • Supervises the 24-hour operation of the Operations Control Center.
  • Provides technical support and coordination for capital improvement projects (CIP).
  • Supervises the work of subordinate staff.
  • Plans, coordinates, and supervises water system configuration changes in support of routine operations, CIP, and maintenance work.
  • Responds to emergencies, as needed.

Qualifications

Experience: Three (3) years of lead or supervisory experience in water systems operation.

Education: Two years of college level course work toward an Associate degree in Waterworks. Water Management or equivalent Water Resource degree

Combinations of appropriate education, training, certification, and experience will be evaluated on an individual basis for comparability to the minimum education and experience requirements.

Licensing, Certifications and Other Requirements:

  • Certification by the State of Washington as a Water Distribution Manager 1 (WDM1), and fulfillment of continuing education requirements
  • Valid Washington State driver license

Desired Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of hydraulics, water supply systems, and related infrastructure. In depth knowledge of the operations of reservoirs, pump stations, large pipelines, valves, and all related appurtenances.
  • Experience conducting operational changes in the field working with large valves, gates, pumps, etc.
  • Experience with graphical SCADA computer systems and using SCADA data for analysis.
  • Higher level WDM certification, cross connection certification, and experience in distribution system water quality management.

Additional Information

This position requires five (5) days on-site. Individual schedules will be agreed upon by the employee and their supervisor.
