Overview
We are seeking a Wearables Technical Lead / Lead Systems Engineer to lead the technical architecture, integration, and engineering execution of an anticipated U.S. Space Force secure wearables program through Space Systems Command (SSC). Working directly with wearable fitness device vendor engineers, government technical stakeholders, MPX cybersecurity specialists, and mission partners, you will own the technical solution from architecture through integrated testing and operational pilot deployment. This is a hands-on technical leadership role requiring deep systems engineering expertise, sound technical judgment, and the ability to turn commercial technology into a secure, mission-ready capability.
Responsibilities
- Lead system architecture, requirements decomposition, interface design, engineering trade studies, and technical baseline management for secure wearable device integration.
- Direct integration of wearable fitness device technology with secure back-end systems, data services, identity infrastructure, and mission applications.
- Establish engineering standards, verification approaches, configuration management practices, and technical risk mitigation plans.
- Work with cybersecurity and RMF teams to implement appropriate authentication, encryption, data protection, and authorization controls.
- Lead engineering coordination across the wearable fitness device vendor, application development, cloud, and cybersecurity teams, subcontractors, and government stakeholders, ensuring clear technical ownership and timely resolution of integration issues.
- Oversee system integration testing, technical readiness reviews, pilot deployment support, and incorporation of lessons learned into future increments.
- Use approved AI and automation tools to improve engineering analysis, testing, integration, and troubleshooting while validating results and protecting sensitive information.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
- 8+ years of systems engineering experience, including ownership of the technical baseline on at least one complex program; experience supporting Department of War programs strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated experience serving as a Lead Systems Engineer, Chief Engineer, Technical Lead, or equivalent.
- Hands-on experience integrating commercial mobile, IoT, wearable, or connected-device technologies with secure enterprise or cloud systems.
- Working knowledge of Department of War cybersecurity requirements, including RMF, ATO processes, encryption, and secure system architecture.
- Experience leading system architecture, interface management, integration testing, verification, and technical risk resolution.
- Ability to lead multidisciplinary engineering teams and partner organizations while maintaining accountability for technical outcomes. Demonstrated ability to coordinate cross-vendor technical integration and execution across device vendors, application developers, cloud engineering, and cybersecurity teams.
- Clear technical writing for government stakeholders, including requirements, verification evidence, and formal technical responses.
- Evidence-based engineering judgment: distinguish verified findings from assumptions and close gaps through testing and documented evidence.
- Experience managing technical change control, configuration baselines, and traceability from requirements through verification on fixed-price or similarly controlled delivery programs.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting U.S. Space Force or Department of the Air Force programs.
- Experience with wearable fitness device vendors or comparable commercial wearable ecosystems.
- Expertise in mobile device security, edge-to-cloud integration, connected-device data pipelines, or secure device management.
- Experience with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), digital engineering, or relevant systems engineering certifications.
- Experience transitioning prototypes into government operational pilots.
- Professional experience with, or a demonstrated personal interest in, health and fitness, physiological monitoring, and wearable technologies.
- Ability to obtain a government security clearance if required.
