Job Description

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Certified Welder to join an aerospace manufacturing team supporting the fabrication and welding of high-performance components and assemblies. This role requires strong hands-on experience with manual GTAW/TIG and orbital GTAW welding, particularly working with exotic aerospace alloys.

The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of aerospace welding standards, welding procedures, equipment setup, inspection requirements, and the ability to consistently produce high-quality welds in a safety- and quality-driven manufacturing environment.

Key Requirements

Candidates must have the following technical experience to be considered for an interview:

  • Manual GTAW (TIG) certification to AWS D17.1, Group IIb, IIIB, VII, 1G position, or equivalent. 1G certification is the required minimum.
  • Hands-on experience setting up, programming, and operating orbital GTAW equipment, such as Orbitalum, AMI, or equivalent.
  • Experience welding exotic aerospace alloys, including:
    • Haynes 188
    • Hastelloy X (HAST-X)
    • Inconel 718
    • L-605 / Cobalt alloys
  • Experience with purge systems and backing gas control.
  • Knowledge of post-weld inspection methods.
  • Experience working from and executing WPS, WPQ, and QTR documentation.
  • Ability to troubleshoot welding equipment and adjust welding parameters within established procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate manual and automated welding systems according to work instructions, procedures, and established welding practices.
  • Set up fixtures, attachments, and workpieces using visual inspection, hand tools, and measuring equipment.
  • Adjust welding parameters within approved procedural limits to achieve required quality standards.
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, weld symbols, procedures, and quality requirements.
  • Perform proper pre-weld cleaning, preparation, and handling of aerospace components.
  • Inspect completed and in-process hardware using visual inspection and measuring equipment.
  • Perform welding equipment setup, troubleshooting, and basic maintenance.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and FOD-free work environment.
  • Maintain all required welding qualifications and certifications.
  • Follow all applicable safety, quality, and manufacturing procedures.
  • Assist and provide guidance to less-experienced welders when needed.
  • Support welding skill development, safety, and technical training.
  • Work with Engineering to develop welding processes and resolve welding-related issues.
  • Troubleshoot welding equipment and collaborate with team members to maintain production requirements.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 8+ years of welding or related experience, or demonstrated ability to successfully perform the responsibilities of the position.
  • Aerospace welding experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience with exotic aerospace alloys required.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain required AWS D17.1 welding qualifications.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, weld symbols, WPS/WPQ/QTR documentation, and quality requirements.
  • Strong manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations and apply machine-shop mathematics.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Effective English verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.

Pre-Employment & Job Requirements

This is a safety-sensitive position and is subject to random drug testing.

Candidates must be able to successfully complete:

  • Eye examination
  • FAA drug test
  • Manual welding performance test
  • Company-administered welding qualification/WPS-QTR testing

Candidates must be able to successfully complete the required company welding performance qualification within two weeks.

Required Prescreen Questions

Candidates must have answers to the following questions included on their resume at the time of submission:

  1. Are you AWS D17.1 certified? If yes, which groups and positions?
  2. How many years of hands-on welding experience do you have, including total welding experience and experience specifically with aerospace/exotic alloys?
  3. Have you programmed and operated Orbitalum or AMI orbital GTAW systems? Yes/No
  4. Can you read and work from WPS and WPQR documents? Yes/No
  5. Are you able to pass a company-administered weld performance qualification (WPS/QTR) within a two-week period? Yes/No

Interview Instructions

Candidates should arrive no more than 5 minutes before their scheduled interview. There is no lobby/waiting area, so candidates will need to remain outside until they are welcomed into the facility.

Important: Candidates should be prepared for the eye exam, FAA drug testing, and manual weld test requirements associated with this position.
