The Welder Apprentice (1st Shift) supports production operations by learning to weld metal components using MIG and TIG welding equipment. This role assists with preparing materials, operating welding tools, and inspecting completed work while following established safety and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
Assist in welding metal components using MIG or TIG welding equipment
Prepare materials by cleaning, positioning, and securing workpieces
Set up and operate welding equipment, including adjusting amperage and voltage settings
Learn to strike arcs and guide welding tools to create proper welds
Inspect welds for quality, including bead size and depth of fusion
Repair cracks, holes, and damaged components as needed
Support assembly by positioning, clamping, and tacking parts together
Maintain a clean and safe work environment
Follow all safety procedures, work instructions, and welding standards
Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications & Requirements
High school diploma preferred
Welding training through education or willingness to learn required
Ability to pass a welding test during application or training period
Strong attention to detail and willingness to follow instructions
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Reliable attendance and flexibility for overtime and weekend work as needed
Skills & Abilities
Ability to read and follow safety procedures and work instructions
Basic math skills, including measurements and calculations
Strong problem-solving and reasoning skills
Ability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
Physical Requirements
Regular standing, walking, bending, stooping, and reaching
Frequent lifting up to 50 lbs; occasional lifting up to 150 lbs
Ability to use hands for handling tools and materials
Visual ability to inspect weld quality and details
Work Environment
Exposure to manufacturing equipment, welding fumes, and airborne particles
Frequent exposure to noise, vibration, and industrial conditions
Occasional exposure to electrical hazards and chemicals
PPE required in all production areas
