Loyola University New Orleans College of Law is accepting applications for our Westerfield Fellowship Program. The fellowship is designed for individuals pursuing a career in law teaching. Fellows have student teaching assistants and a faculty mentor, and they may hire a research assistant. One-year contracts may be renewed, and typical fellowships are two years. Westerfield Fellows have been successful in obtaining tenure track positions at ABA-accredited law schools teaching in many different areas of law.

The College of Law is located in one of the most culturally diverse cities in the United States, with unique cuisine, museums, historical sites, and a flourishing arts and music community. New Orleans is the seat of the United States Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals, United States District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana, Louisiana Supreme Court, Louisiana Fourth Circuit Court of Appeal, as well as other lower courts. The College of Law has a student population of approximately 600 students, over forty faculty members, active clinics that have spearheaded numerous social justice reform efforts, and summer abroad programs. Its location in Louisiana, one of the world's best known "mixed jurisdictions," provides unique opportunities for comparative and international law scholarship. Examples of Duties

Fellows are responsible for teaching two sections of a three-credit legal research and writing course in the fall and an appellate advocacy course in the spring.

Fellows teach these courses with the support of an experienced director in a program in which the director and professors coordinate the content and pace of the classes. Fellows also have the opportunity to create and teach a seminar on a topic of their interest in the second year.

Typical Qualifications

Minimum Juris Doctorate Degree from an accredited United States institution. Foreign-educated candidates with a PhD may be considered.

Applicants should have strong academic credentials and excellent communication skills.

In accordance with the Campus Security Act as amended, Loyola University publishes annually and distributes to members of the academic community, and upon request to prospective (students/employees), an annual security report. That report includes current policies and procedures of the University Police Department for the reporting of campus crimes, notifying the campus community of occurrence of campus crimes, policies regarding access to campus buildings, the enforcement authority of the University Police Officers and their relationship to local police. University policies on the possession, use and sale of alcohol and illegal drugs are outlined. The Campus sexual Assault Program and policy is described. Campus crime statistics as defined under this law for the last three calendar years are included. A copy of this report may be secured from the (Office of Admissions), (Office of Human Resources), or from the University Police Department.
