Title Work Study LGCIE Ambassador Position Description

Department Information:

The Lewis and Gaines Center for Inclusion and Equity (LGCIE) is an administrative department dedicated to providing services and programs that contribute to the success of students of color at Bridgewater State University. Through specialized programming, support, social, and cultural events the department supports all BSU students in achieving their academic goals and enriching their cultural and social belonging experiences.

Students who have utilized LGCIE's services, attended the events, and are interested in working in a diverse environment that provides student success initiatives, and promotes equity, cultural awareness, and belonging, apply to join our team!

Position Information:

The LGCIE Ambassadors work on behalf of the center to promote the center and connect all students with its staff and resources. They will work closely with other student employees to support the professional staff in carrying out LGCIE's mission and goals.

In addition to outreach and engagement, Ambassadors are instrumental in strengthening LGCIE's brand and visibility through strategic marketing and dynamic communications. This entails helping to bring LGCIE's mission to life by designing informative eye-catching flyers, producing engaging video content, and actively promoting events, programs, and services across campus. From crafting compelling messaging to building a strong and consistent presence on student-facing platforms, Ambassadors play a key role in driving awareness, increasing participation, and connecting students to everything LGCIE has to offer.

Therefore, Ambassadors must understand LGCIE's mission and have a broad knowledge of the services, initiatives, and programs provided for students at BSU. They must be strong communicators, approachable, and welcoming to encourage prospective and current students to engage with the center and benefit from its resources.

The LGCIE Ambassadors must always conduct themselves professionally. This includes punctuality for shifts, wearing appropriate clothing and nametags, working collaboratively with other staff, fulfilling all job responsibilities, interacting positively with current students, prospective students, families, and visitors, etc. Ambassadors will fulfill the role of Office Assistants when needed in the general office. They must prioritize the position as a job and report any schedule conflicts to their supervisor, the Assistant Director.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Interacting with prospective students, families, visitors, and current students in a welcoming and professional manner.
  • Representing LGCIE at recruitment events, fairs, and campus programs.
  • Distributing promotional materials and swag to increase awareness of LGCIE programs and services.
  • Assisting with promoting events through social media, EngageBSU, and other student platforms.
  • Supporting the creation of basic marketing materials (flyers, posts, captions, or visuals) using tools such as Canva.
  • Contributing content (photos, short videos, highlights) to support LGCIE's social media presence.
  • Assisting with weekly promotion efforts to ensure events are visible, timely, and relevant to students.
  • Providing feedback on student engagement and helping identify effective ways to reach the campus community.
  • Attend bi-weekly staff meetings.
  • Attend Multicultural Student Organization Leadership meetings.
  • Assist at programs and events.

Eligibility requirements:

  • Must be a Bridgewater State University undergraduate student registered for a minimum of six credits for the Fall 2026 semester.
  • Must have Work Study award in your financial aid package

Preferred Qualifications

  • BSU undergraduate students with good conduct and academic standing.
  • Excellent customer service.
  • Knowledge of BSU and LGCIE resources, programs, and student success services.
  • Ability to provide information and answer questions about multicultural student experiences at BSU.
  • Experience with public speaking and outreach to promote LGCIE positively to the campus community and prospective students.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office 365.
  • Familiarity with social media platforms (Instagram, TikTok, etc.) and basic content creation.
  • Experience or willingness to learn tools such as Canva for creating marketing materials.
  • Experience in digital marketing, event promotion, and student engagement strategies.
  • Experience or interest in working with students from diverse backgrounds.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and promoting LGCIE to other students.
  • Strong interest in learning about different cultures and diversity topics.
  • Strong communication skills (oral and written).
  • Attention to detail, organization, and time management skills.
  • General office and clerical skills.

Physical Demands

  • Sitting/standing outdoors and indoors
  • Lifting items up to 30 pounds
  • Ability to travel across campus if needed
