Title Work Study LGCIE Office Assistant Position Description
The Lewis and Gaines Center for Inclusion and Equity (LGCIE) is an administrative department dedicated to providing services and programs that contribute to the success of students of color at Bridgewater State University. Through specialized programming, support, social, and cultural events the department supports all BSU students in achieving their academic goals and enriching their cultural and social belonging experiences.

Position Information:
The LGCIE Office Assistants serve as the primary point of contact and face of the center, providing excellent customer service to ensure that all students, visitors, event attendees/providers, faculty, and staff feel welcomed, supported, and included.
Office Assistants work closely with other student employees, including Ambassadors and Mentors, to support professional staff in carrying out LGCIE's mission, programs, and student success initiatives. Office Assistants play a key role in maintaining the daily operations, environment, and overall experience of the LGCIE space. This includes but not limited to: providing coverage of the front desk; operating the attendance tracker; performing general office/clerical tasks; managing the posting, upkeep, and removal of promotional materials; creating promotional materials; attending staff meetings; and assisting with programs and events.
Office Assistants are expected to be approachable, knowledgeable, and proactive in supporting both operational tasks and student engagement efforts. Office Assistants must conduct themselves professionally at all times. This includes punctuality for shifts, wearing appropriate clothing and nametags, working collaboratively with other staff, fulfilling all job responsibilities, and having positive interactions with students and visitors, etc. They must prioritize the position as a job and report any schedule conflicts to their supervisor, the Staff Assistant.
Key responsibilities include:
Front Desk support:
- Provide front desk coverage and welcome all guests in a professional and inclusive manner.
- Ensure all visitors check into the center using Engage: the card reader, digital sign-in, or manual sign-in processes.
- Perform general office and clerical tasks (answering questions, organizing materials, supporting staff needs, etc.).
- Manage the posting, upkeep, and removal of promotional materials, including maintaining LGCIE bulletin boards and distributing flyers across campus to ensure that our flyers are current and visible.
- Attend bi-weekly staff meetings
- Maintain cleanliness, organization, and overall presentation of the center.
- Ensure shared spaces (front desk, lounge areas, etc.) remain welcoming and functional.
- Monitor and restock snacks and the coffee station regularly.
- Closing shift workers must sanitize all tables, chairs, coffee equipment, and arrange the tables and chairs.
Student Engagement, Marketing, & Collaboration:
- Share campus resources with students who express a need for these resources.
- Refer students who need assistance or are having academic, personal, social, or other challenges to the professional staff for assistance.
- Collaborate with LGCIE Ambassadors and other student staff on special projects and initiatives as needed.
- Assist with marketing efforts, including creating and distributing flyers and promotional materials.
- Support outreach efforts to promote LGCIE programs, services, and events.
- Assist with staffing LGCIE tabling events and campus outreach opportunities as needed.
- Contribute to creating a welcoming and engaging environment that fosters student belonging.
- Provide feedback on student engagement and ways to improve outreach and visibility.
Programs & Events Support:
- Welcome attendees to the event.
- Assist with event setup, check-in, and breakdown.
- Support attendance tracking using card readers and sign-in systems.
- Provide general support to staff, presenters, and attendees during events.
- Ask attendees to complete an evaluation form.
Eligibility requirements:
- Must be a Bridgewater State University undergraduate student registered for a minimum of six credits for the Fall 2026 semester.
- Must have Work Study award in your financial aid package
Preferred Qualifications
- Full-time BSU undergraduate student in good conduct and academic standing.
- Knowledge of BSU resources and departments to inform students who need these resources.
- Strong commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student belonging.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills.
- Comfort interacting with individuals from diverse backgrounds and discussing LGCIE services.
- Strong interest in learning about cultures and diversity topics.
- Experience or willingness to assist with marketing and outreach efforts
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 and general office/clerical skills.
- Familiarity with social media platforms and basic content creation (preferred).
- Strong organization, time management, and attention to detail.
Physical Demands
- Sitting/standing outdoors and indoors.
- Lifting items up to 30 pounds.
- Ability to travel across campus if needed.
