Position Information

Title Work Study Office Assistant Position Description

The Division for Student Life is looking for an Office Assistant to support the Staff Assistant, Administrative Assistant, and Directors within the Student Life office. Hours for this position will be scheduled between Monday and Friday, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

In this role, Office Assistants will:

  • Communicate professionally through face-to-face interactions, phone calls, and email
  • Participate in job-based learning through a combination of hands-on experience, online training, and asking questions to support understanding of the role
  • Gain a broader understanding of student life and university departments
  • Represent the Division for Student Life in all interactions with visitors and callers
  • Practice confidentiality and professionalism when engaging in all communications and handling sensitive information, particularly student-related matters

Core responsibilities:

Front Desk & Customer Service Support

  • Serve as the first point of contact for the Student Life main office by answering phone calls, greeting and assisting walk-in visitors, and responding to emails via Microsoft Outlook
  • Provide a welcoming and helpful experience to students, staff, families and/or supporters
  • Direct inquiries to appropriate office with connecting visitors or callers with campus resources
  • Assists the Center for Student Support by welcoming students arriving for appointments, connecting with the Director on inquiries, and assisting students with scheduling appointments when needed
  • Monitor and professionally respond to shared office inboxes
  • Demonstrate confidentiality when handling student information and inquirie

Clerical & Administrative Tasks

  • Perform basic clerical tasks such as printing, scanning, copying, and organizing documents
  • Create and format documents, surveys, spreadsheets, and forms using Canva and Microsoft Office tools (Excel, Forms, PowerPoint, Teams, Word)
  • Maintain office organization with supplies and swag items

Marketing & Content Creation

  • Use Canva to design flyers, brochures, marketing material, presentations, and social media content that may include reels, stories, posts

Event & Program Support

  • Assist with event setup, logistics, and breakdown for programs
  • Support divisional tasks, special projects, and office-wide initiatives
  • Support BSU Food Pantry needs at random with food deliveries or other pantry needs

Eligibility requirements:

  • Must be a Bridgewater State University undergraduate student registered for a minimum of six credits for the Fall 2026 semester.
  • Must have Work Study award in your financial aid package

Preferred Qualifications

  • Friendly and professional customer service skills
  • Proficient experience using Canva in creating various content/documents
  • Comfortable using Microsoft programs (Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams, Word) and basic computer technology
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Dependable and able to arrive on time and consistently for scheduled shifts
  • Positive attitude and willingness to learn
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities within a shift
  • Ability to work respectfully with people from different backgrounds and experience
  • Committed to creating a welcoming and inclusive environment within our office

Physical Demands

  • Delivery of food pantry produce/items with the use of a hand truck
  • Occasional deliveries across campus to divisional offices pulling a wagon
  • Occasional lifting of storage bins to and from closet areas
