Position Title: Workday Functional Consultant

Location: Charlotte, NC (Hybrid — 3 days onsite, 2 days remote)
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Workday Functional Consultant for a contract-to-hire opportunity based in Charlotte, NC. In this role, you will serve as a key subject matter expert driving the optimization, configuration, and continuous enhancement of our Workday platform. You will partner closely with HR, Finance, and IT stakeholders to translate business needs into scalable Workday solutions. This is a hybrid position requiring 3 days per week in our Charlotte office, offering a direct path to full-time employment for the right candidate.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead end-to-end functional support, business process design, and hands-on configuration across Core HCM and secondary modules (e.g., Advanced Compensation, Benefits, Absence/Time Tracking, or Financials).
- Partner with cross-functional business leads to gather, analyze, and document functional requirements and business process improvements.
- Manage twice-yearly Workday feature releases: assess new functionality, conduct impact analyses, execute testing, and deploy updates.
- Build, modify, and optimize custom reports, calculated fields, and matrix reports; assist with functional validation of integrations and EIBs.
- Lead User Acceptance Testing (UAT), including writing test scenarios, executing test scripts, tracking defects, and obtaining functional sign-off.
- Provide Tier 3 operational support, troubleshooting complex system issues, root-cause analysis, and tenant management.
- Develop user guides, process documentation, and deliver functional training to end-users and HR system admins.
Required Qualifications
- Experience: Must have 3+ years of hands-on WORKDAY functional experience configuring and supporting Workday (Core HCM required; additional module experience strongly preferred).
- Workday Certifications: Workday HCM Functional certification or Pro Certification (active or past) is a strong plus.
- Technical/Functional Skills: Advanced proficiency in Workday Business Process (BP) framework, Security Groups, Calculated Fields, and Custom Reporting.
- Testing & Release: Proven experience leading UAT and managing Workday semi-annual release cycles.
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Information Systems, Business Administration, or equivalent work experience.
- Soft Skills: Exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills with the ability to translate complex technical concepts into business terms.
Work Environment & Schedule
- Schedule: Hybrid schedule requiring 3 days onsite in the Charlotte, NC office and 2 days remote.
Eligibility: Must be local to the greater Charlotte region. Candidates must be authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.
