  • CDL Positions HIRING INCENTIVE*

Eligible newly hired candidates hired into a position requiring a CDL will receive an incremental hiring incentive upon satisfactory job performance after completion of 3, 6, and 12 months of service.

Valid Driver's License: $1,500 one time hiring incentive to be paid in $500 increments (not added to base salary). This is a one-time incentive, and you will not be eligible for an additional incentive when you obtain your required CDL license.

Class A or Class B CDL: $3,000 one time hiring incentive to be paid in $1,000 increments (not added to base salary).

Continuation of this Recruitment/Hiring Incentive Program is subject to available funding and approval by the Manager.

Minimum Training & Experience Required to Perform Essential Job Functions

What You'll Need to Qualify

  • A high school diploma or equivalent.
  • At least one year of hands-on work experience - construction, landscaping, mechanical, farm, or similar.
  • A valid driver's license and the ability to get your Georgia CDL Class B with tanker endorsement within 5 months.
  • A strong work ethic, reliability, and a willingness to learn and operate heavy equipment safely.

Essential Duties, Responsibilities

What You'll Do

  • Build and repair streets, sidewalks, curbs, and drainage systems that keep Athens safe and moving.
  • Operate trucks, loaders, and power tools to get the job done.
  • Lay concrete, brick, and block to build and repair catch basins, walls, and drainage structures.
  • Keep your equipment in shape - check fluids, perform light maintenance, and report issues.
  • Set up traffic control and keep the work zone safe for everyone.
  • Step up during emergencies (storms, floods, or other events) to help restore and protect the community.
