    Job Description

    Position Summary:

    The Youth Peer Support will provide support and planning to assist parents/caregivers of young people participating in CFF’s Montgomery County Intensive Care Coordination Program. The YPS will provide supportive interventions to eligible clients either face-to-face or over the phone/telehealth to provide necessary support to develop skills and community support, and work toward goals on their Family Service Plan. The YSP will fill the need for supportive guidance from a skilled person with lived experience who is objective and neutral, trauma-informed, and person-centered. The YPS will utilize their own lived experience to support the children enrolled in the ICC program through CFF.

    Responsibilities:

    The Youth Peer Support will work as part of the ICC Team providing support and guidance to the youth throughout the process, during meetings, and in completion of the individualized plans developed by the youth and their family. The Youth Support Partner will work with the identified youth to develop their own team of supports (natural, community, and systems).

    The Youth Peer Support will use their own life experiences to model for the youth how to navigate systems using their voice to meet their needs while developing natural supports within their own community to reach their family vision.

    Required Qualifications:

    • High School Diploma or GED
    • Have prior experience handling complex emotional and behavioral needs.
    • Have life experience which allows you to possess a diverse understanding of the struggles youth with complex emotional needs endure.
    • Have successfully navigated child serving systems (mental health, child welfare, probation, education)

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Knowledge of community resources in Montgomery County.
    • Exhibit competency in personal recovery and use of coping skills.
    • Demonstrate the ability to assist parents/caregivers in developing empowerment skills and combating stigma through self-advocacy.
    • Knowledge and skill to teach and engage in basic problem solving strategies to support clients in self-directed recovery.
    • Knowledge and skill sufficient to use community resources necessary for independent living and ability to teach those skills to others.
    • Ability to reflect the culture and understand the challenges of a caregiver of a child in OCY services.       

    Work Environment:

    • Hybrid work environment both in a standard office environment, and remotely from home, as well as community settings to include client home, schools, court, doctor’s offices and hospitals.
