WORKER
JOB CLASS NUMBER: 6139
Under direct supervision of the Zoo Director, the Utility Maintenance Worker is responsible for
general maintenance, repair, and construction in and around the Zoo.
Lays out, cuts, fits, and joins together lumber or metal to construct, remodel, and repair
buildings
Installs partitions, paneling, acoustical ceilings and floor covering
Remodels offices and other existing structures
Builds animal exhibits and shelters
Makes or repairs cabinets, animal furniture and other articles
Welds framework and repairs steel articles
Uses a variety of hand and power tools and small excavation equipment
Responsible for maintenance of the equipment
Follows the Louisiana Governmental Code of Ethics for public servants
Performs other reasonable duties within the scope of work or in emergency situations as
assigned by the appropriate authority.
High School diploma or GED from an accredited institution
Two (2)years experience in construction or maintenance, with a verifiable work history
Grounds or horticulture experience is preferred.
A completed application
Able to work unsupervised when required
Skilled in the use and care of hand and power tools
Good working knowledge of carpentry procedures, welding procedures and techniques
Able to understand and follow oral and written plans and instructions
Able to give written and oral reports
Maintenance experience with electrical and plumbing
Able to operate small excavating equipment
Some ability to repair and maintain small motorsADMINISTRATION
