Primary Responsibilities: • Assist in daily pig care; check, identify, and administer treatment to sick pigs, monitor room temperatures, feed levels, water meters, and ventilation settings • Provide support for research measurement days and between research studies • Collect pig health status, feed usage, pig bodyweights, and other notable observations related to research trials • Regularly handle, restrain, move, and load pigs of various sizes (12 -300+ lbs.) • Pressure wash and disinfect animal rooms as well as load out chutes and hallways in between animal groups • Maintain flexibility to work at different research barns based on scheduling and project needs • Operate a tractor, spray weeds, mow lawn, manage and rotate compost bays • Learn and understand feeding equipment and environmental controls • Wash and disinfect scales, buckets, boots, panels, and other equipment regularly • Carry out and understand the importance of all biosecurity procedures including showering in and out of research barns • Perform other job duties assigned that are found to be necessary by the barn manager including miscellaneous maintenance of facility and equipment: fix broken water lines and drinkers, change light bulbs, regular greasing of fans and other equipment • Set up rooms to receive new pigs for research trials.
