p>This candidate will be integrally involved in the daily transportation need of the Groton Shipyard, including but not limited to: forklifts, trucks, tractor trailers, and transporters, which may include moves made off-site. Must have detailed knowledge of transportation responsibilities and be capable of directing multi-trade personnel as well as the ability to interact with all levels of management.
p>In the Department of Transportation this class is accountable for acting as a working lead who assists a supervisor in supervising a designated group of employees and/or for performing the most complex engineering or related tasks in one or more aspects of transportation construction engineering projects or studies in the areas of construction, administration, rehabilitation, surveying, testing, materials testing, maintenance or operations. Experience with Project Management which includes conflict resolution; preparing letters, memorandums and other correspondences; developing or reviewing construction schedules; Time Extensions and Change Orders; analyzing, reviewing and interpreting engineering reports, plans and specifications; analyzing design or construction problems and determining effective solutions; price or project issue negotiations.
p>Depending on the assigned unit, Transportation Engineer 3's may: - Lead coordination with consulting engineering firms in the development of bridge rehabilitation, replacement, or major structure projects;
- Manage structural design tasks, alternatives analyses, technical reviews, and contract document development for bridges and transportation structures;
- Support the development and implementation of asset management strategies, including data collection, analysis, and lifecycle planning for the statewide bridge inventory;
- Oversee engineering work for rail bridge and structure projects requiring specialized knowledge of railroad operations, loading, and agency coordination;
- Contribute to the planning and execution of major bridge projects requiring large scale design efforts, multidisciplinary coordination, and advanced structural engineering judgment. Engineers in these roles take on complex and challenging structural engineering assignments and contribute to impactful statewide programs in areas such as Consultant Bridge Design CLE Program, Bridge Management, Rail Bridges & Structures, Major Bridges, and other units within the Division.
