ResponsibilitiesManage a public entity litigation caseload from inception through resolutionDraft pleadings, motions, discovery, and other legal documentsConduct legal research and prepare written advocacyTake and defend depositions, including fact and expert witnessesAttend court hearings, mediations, arbitrations, and settlement conferencesDevelop case strategy in collaboration with partners and senior attorneysCommunicate effectively with public entity clients, risk managers, carriers, experts, and opposing counselEvaluate liability, damages, and litigation riskAnalyze and apply immunities, statutory defenses, and governmental liability principlesMaintain accurate billing and case management recordsMentor junior attorneys and support staff as appropriateQualificationsActive membership in the California State BarMinimum of 3 years of civil litigation experienceStrong legal writing, research, and oral advocacy skillsAbility to independently manage cases while working collaboratively within a team environmentExcellent organizational and time management skillsExperience in any of the following areas is highly preferred:Public Entity DefenseGovernment Tort LiabilityCivil Rights Defense (42 U.S.C. § 1983)Law Enforcement DefensePremises LiabilityGeneral LiabilityEmployment Litigation DefenseInsurance Defense LitigationAttorneys with 6 or more years of relevant litigation experience may be considered for Senior Associate opportunities.
