The bus driver will perform the following duties: Operate the daily bus route, morning and afternoon, to and from the Bluffton campus to neighboring communities such as Hilton Head or the Beaufort area. The HHCA bus driver MUST be able to interact with students with a calm, kind and patient demeanor, while also being able to hold them accountable to bus rules.

The bus driver will perform the following duties:<ul><li>Operate the daily bus route, morning and afternoon, to and from the Bluffton campus to neighboring communities such as Hilton Head or the Beaufort area. </li><li>Maintain an orderly bus environment among the riders</li><li>Clean assigned vehicles, both interior and exterior</li><li>Help transport vehicles for maintenance purposes</li><li>Fuel buses as needed</li><li>The bus driver will have the option to drive for field trips during school hours, as well as athletic events in the evenings or weekends, but these are secondary to the primary task of driving the daily morning and afternoon routes.</li></ul>RequirementsThis position includes the following requirements: <ul><li>Must have a current CDL with proper certifications to transport students. Air Brakes certification preferred.</li><li>Must have acceptable driving record</li><li>Must meet physical requirements associated with maintaining updated CDL status</li><li>Must be able to pass a criminal background check</li><li>This position works with elementary school aged students through middle / high school students, all riding on the same bus. The HHCA bus driver MUST be able to interact with students with a calm, kind and patient demeanor, while also being able to hold them accountable to bus rules. </li><li>This position must be a team player who knows when to properly refer a discipline issue or a parent issue to the appropriate supervisor.</li></ul>

Training and SafetySALARY SCHEDULE<ul><li>Flat training fee is $16.00 per hour.</li></ul>WORK DAYSThis is a temporary training agreement for the entire training program and cannot exceed 90 days.REQUIREMENTS<ul><li>Education Level: High School Diploma or GED preferred. Please note that while a diploma is not required for this position, limited career advancement opportunities may exist without a high school diploma or equivalent.</li><li>Experience, Skill, and Certification:</li><li>Valid State Driver License must be at least 21 years of age to obtain license.</li><li>Have held a valid state drivers license for a minimum of the 5 previous years.</li><li>Ability to lift equipment and/or student weighing 40 pounds.</li><li>Written and oral communication.</li><li>Pre-employment physical examination.</li></ul>ESSENTIAL DUTIES<ul><li>Obtain CDL permit before beginning training. Non-compensated classes are available through the Savannah-Chatham County Public School System Transportation Training Department to obtain permit.</li><li>Obtain CDL License with S & P endorsement within 3 months of entering the internship program.</li><li>Demonstrates prompt and regular attendance. Work hours may vary during the school year.</li><li>Contacts dispatch during timeframe published in the Drivers Handbook to report same-day absences.</li><li>Trains to drive designated routes according to stop schedule and transport students to and from school.</li><li>Demonstrates ability to perform pre-trip inspection of bus as required by department regulations and post-trip inspection for children who may be left on bus.</li><li>Demonstrates ability to fuel assigned bus as needed and records data in auto-fueling system.</li><li>Delivers bus to Fleet Maintenance shop as directed by pre-arranged schedule and as needed.</li><li>Ability to be proficient submitting all reports and corrective time sheets in a timely manner as required by Transportation department.</li><li>Attends required training meetings as requested.</li><li>Ability to be proficient in operating a school bus in accordance with the laws of Georgia and in accordance with the policies prescribed by the Savannah Chatham County Public School District under all types of weather conditions, including but not limited to sun, fog, rain, sleet, hail, snow, and ice.</li><li>Operates bus without receiving a traffic violation or warning citation from state or local law enforcement.</li><li>Operates the bus without any preventable accidents as determined by Risk Management during the evaluation period.</li><li>Maintains external and internal cleanliness of bus as required for safe comfortable operation.</li><li>Monitors and operates communication devices for essential and emergency transmissions only.</li><li>Proficient in conducting emergency evacuation drills as required.</li><li>Reports delays, accidents, and unusual situations to the Transportation Department.</li><li>Exhibits cordial relations with parents, administrators, other employees, and the general public.</li><li>Ability to maintain student discipline on the bus and refers serious infractions to appropriate administrator using District-approved process.</li><li>Collects, maintains, and periodically updates emergency information and is aware of students medical needs reported by parents, guardians, or school staff.</li><li>Presents professional appearance.</li><li>Has ability to drive any make and model bus in the transportation fleet.</li><li>Special Education Lift Bus Only:</li><li>Operates wheelchair lift and secures door on lift during transport.</li><li>Performs necessary tie-downs for wheelchairs and seat security devices for students.</li><li>Performs other duties as necessary for the effectiveness of the organization.</li></ul>TERMS OF EMPLOYMENTThis is a paid training program for the purpose of becoming eligible for full-time employment as a School bus driver. This is a temporary training agreement for the entire training program and cannot exceed 90 days. Flat training fee is $13.65 per hour.
