Distinct functions of the APP position include patient management, clinical decision making, bedside procedures (including bedside incision and drainage, chest tube placement, and removal, wound repair, wound management, drain management, central lines, dialysis catheters, arterial lines), and teaching of patients, family and staff. The APP works collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team including Attending Physicians, Residents, other APPs, medical and APP students, Clinical Nurse Specialists, Pharmacists, Case Managers, Social workers, Consultants and more.
