Throughout the internship, the student will receive training in techniques that may include DNA extraction, PCR, electrophoresis, gel documentation, histological sectioning and staining, imaging and documentation of histological samples, data acquisition and analysis, flow cytometry sample preparation, RNA isolation, reverse transcription, quantitative real-time PCR, immunohistochemistry, and cell culture. The intern will receive an introduction to key scientific concepts relevant to the laboratory's research, including the Cre-lox system used in certain mouse models, the purpose and application of various research models, and the scientific principles underlying techniques such as PCR, histology, RNA sequencing, flow cytometry, and phenotype analysis.
