Missouri Jobs: Overview
Go shopping for Missouri jobs, and eventually, you’ll learn its nickname is the “Show Me State.” The moniker was made famous in 1899 when Congressman Willard Duncan Vandiver said, “For thy eloquence neither convinces nor satisfies me. I am from Missouri. You have got to show me.”
One thing Missouri can show you is food and drink. Anheuser-Busch’s Budweiser’s facility in Saint Louis is the largest beer-producing plant in the U.S. A smorgasbord of Missouri-based food goes with that beer:
- First is Saint Louis-Style Pizza with a cracker-like crust, cut square, and a cheddar, swiss, and provolone cheese mixture.
- How can you not love a cake with the word “gooey” in its name? The Missouri-bred Gooey Butter Cake is more of a pancake or bar cookie than a cake. It’s described as a mound of jiggly butter, and the locals are crazy about it.
- The next dish is known as a “culinary car crash” and is a great hangover cure. The Saint Louis Slinger combines fried eggs and hamburger patties covered in chili and garnished with grated cheese and chopped onions.
- Missourians love to combine ingredients that generally don’t see the same plate. The St. Paul Sandwich is a hot, crispy egg foo young patty topped with pickles, lettuce, tomato, and a slather of creamy mayo between white bread slices.
- And finally is a food that has a whole festival built around it. Schools in Nixa, Missouri, close for Sucker Day. It has nothing to do with lollipops. Suckers are bottom-dweller fish that you “grab” rather than hook.
No matter what your taste, you’ll find great Missouri food and jobs in Springfield, Kansas City, and Saint Louis.
