<strong>Your Job</strong><p> Georgia-Pacific's Containerboard mill in Brewton, AL is seeking qualified individuals to consider for their Safety Specialist position. </p><p> The Safety Specialist will lead and support safety initiatives to ensure compliance with regulatory standards and company policies while actively partnering with operations to identify risk, strengthen controls, and drive a proactive safety culture across the facility.</p><p><strong>Our Team</strong></p><p> The Brewton mill is located in south central Alabama about an hour from Mobile, AL, Pensacola, FL, and the beautiful beaches of the Gulf Coast. The team is made up of 450 employees who produce white top linerboard and solid bleached sulfate (SBS) paperboard. The SBS material is used to make GP's Dixie plates. White top linerboard is used in production of corrugated containers and displays. This position is an opportunity to be part of a rapidly expanding organization with tremendous growth potential. Learn more about our Brewton facility and employees here: We Are: Brewton</p><p><strong>What You Will Do</strong></p><p> • Develop, implement, continuously improve, and maintain safety programs, policies, and procedures in compliance with OSHA and other regulatory requirements. </p><p> • Assist with respiratory protection programs and ensure compliance with applicable standards. </p><p> • Lead the facility Hearing Conservation Program, including noise monitoring, audiometric testing oversight, employee education, corrective action tracking, and continuous improvement to reduce occupational noise exposure. </p><p> • Collaborate effectively with the facility team to integrate safety into operations. </p><p> • Lead new hire onboarding and orientation for safety requirements. </p><p> • Partner with Learning & Development (L&D) to deliver required safety training programs. </p><p> • Understand and apply OSHA, ANSI, NFPA, and Alabama regulatory requirements. </p><p> • Manage workers' compensation and return-to-work programs. </p><p> • Conduct risk assessments and incident investigations; recommend corrective actions. </p><p> • Manage contractor safety programs, including ISNetworld (ISN) compliance and onboarding processes. </p><p> • Monitor and report safety performance metrics; identify trends and implement improvement strategies. </p><p> • Oversee the Lockout/Tagout (LTV) program to ensure proper energy control procedures. </p><p> • Oversee machine guarding compliance and improvements. </p><p> • Lead and reinforce the Safe Work Permitting (Save My Life) process for high-risk tasks, ensuring it is used as a planning and hazard recognition tool.</p><p><strong>Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)</strong></p><p> • 3 + years of safety experience in manufacturing; paper and pulp industry experience is a plus. </p><p> • Strong knowledge of OSHA, ANSI, NFPA, and state regulatory requirements. </p><p> • Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills. </p><p> • Ability to learn site-specific processes and regulatory nuances while maintaining strong core safety principles. </p><p> • Ability to analyze data and implement effective safety solutions.</p><p><strong>What Will Put You Ahead</strong></p><p> • Bachelor's degree in safety, Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene, or related field. </p><p> • Certifications: CSP, ASP, CIH, or CHMM. </p><p> • Equivalent experience demonstrating program ownership and regulatory competence will be considered. </p><p> • Experience with PBM and HOP frameworks. </p><p> • Proven ability to influence and drive a strong safety culture. </p><p> • Experience in incident investigation and root cause analysis. </p><p> • Experience with control of hazardous energy and machine guarding program development. </p><p> • Familiarity with Process Safety compliance and sustainability initiatives.</p><p>At Koch companies, we are entrepreneurs. Requirements:
<div><strong>Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities</strong></div><div> </div><div>• Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science or related scientific discipline.</div><div>• Minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience supporting environmental compliance and/or NEPA DOD programs.</div><div>• Familiarity with NEPA Findings of No Significant Impact (FONSI), Findings of No Practicable Alternatives (FONPA), Records of Decision (ROD), and ESA Section 7 consultations.</div><div>• Proficient working in a flexible environment and demonstrated ability to effectively organize, prioritize, delegate, and multi-task.</div><div>• Possess excellent time management, good judgment, conflict resolution, and exceptional written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.</div><div>• Must be highly proficient using MS Office software applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Project, Teams, Outlook).</div><div>• Ability and willingness to occasionally travel in support of customer requirements.
