Alabama Jobs: Overview

Being a racecar driver at the Talladega Speedway is one of the coolest Alabama jobs ever. The motorsports complex built in 1969 is one of the most popular in the U.S. and has the longest NASCAR oval track at 2.66 miles. But Talladega isn’t the only place Alabama has made history on wheels.

The first Mercedes Benz factory in the U.S. was built in Tuscaloosa and started producing cars in 1997. In 1903, Mary Anderson of Greene County was granted a patent for her invention of the windshield wiper. Cadillac was the first car to include them as standard equipment. The “father of the airbag” was from Montrose and attended Auburn University.

If you’re up for some sightseeing, Hank Williams' 1952 Cadillac is displayed in Montgomery. He died in the car at age 29. The largest motorcycle collection in the world is on display in Birmingham at the Barber Vintage Motorsports Museum. It features 1,6000 exhibits manufactured by more than 200 companies. Drive on Highway 231 just south of Brundidge, and you’ll see a giant rooster made of car bumpers. You can see other museum exhibits without leaving your car at the Drive-Thru Museum in Seale.

You can see more Alabama history while you look for jobs in Huntsville, Birmingham, and Montgomery.

When you’re ready to format your resume, Monster has sample resumes and free templates you can use.

Your application package should always include a cover letter. Think of it as a way to “cover” more in-depth information that won’t fit on your resume. Make sure your cover letter gets read by using these tips.
