The ideal candidate brings experience in manufacturing environments and has the strategic mindset and leadership skills to partner with the executive team.Key Responsibilities1. Job Costing & Project Profitability<ul style="list-style-type:disc"><li style="line-height:normal">Design, implement, and continuously improve job costing systems to accurately capture material, labour, and overhead costs</li><li style="line-height:normal">Partner with project managers and production teams to ensure real-time cost tracking against budgets</li><li style="line-height:normal">Analyze job margins and identify variances, inefficiencies, and cost overruns</li><li style="line-height:normal">Develop standardized costing models for millwork and metal projects (custom jobs, installs, fabrication, etc.)</li><li style="line-height:normal">Ensure accurate allocation of direct and indirect costs</li></ul>2. Work-in-Progress (WIP) Management<ul style="list-style-type:disc"><li style="line-height:normal">Establish and maintain accurate WIP tracking and reporting processes</li><li style="line-height:normal">Oversee monthly WIP calculations, including percent-of-completion and earned revenue recognition</li><li style="line-height:normal">Reconcile WIP schedules to the general ledger and financial statements</li><li style="line-height:normal">Identify and address negative WIP, overbilling, and underbilling issues</li><li style="line-height:normal">Improve visibility into production stage costing (shop, finishing, installation)</li></ul>3. Financial Reporting & Controls<ul style="list-style-type:disc"><li>Oversee all accounting and HR operations, including accounts payable/receivable, general ledger, payroll, and bank reconciliations</li><li>Prepare timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements</li><li style="line-height:normal">Develop job-level and departmental reporting for operational decision-making</li><li style="line-height:normal">Strengthen internal controls around inventory, labour tracking, and project costing</li><li style="line-height:normal">Ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards (e.g., ASPE or GAAP as applicable)</li></ul>4. Budgeting, Forecasting & Cash Flow<ul style="list-style-type:disc"><li style="line-height:normal">Lead the annual budgeting process, including detailed project and production forecasts</li><li style="line-height:normal">Develop rolling forecasts with a focus on backlog, pipeline, and production capacity</li><li style="line-height:normal">Monitor cash flow, particularly as it relates to project billing cycles and WIP</li><li style="line-height:normal">Support pricing strategies by providing cost and margin analysis</li></ul>5. Inventory & Production Costing<ul style="list-style-type:disc"><li style="line-height:normal">Oversee inventory valuation and controls for raw materials, WIP, and finished goods</li><li style="line-height:normal">Implement cycle counts and reconciliation processes</li><li style="line-height:normal">Ensure proper costing of materials, waste, and scrap</li><li style="line-height:normal">Work with operations to improve material yield and cost efficiency</li></ul>6. Systems & Process Improvement<ul style="list-style-type:disc"><li style="line-height:normal">Evaluate and enhance ERP/accounting systems to better support job costing and WIP tracking</li><li style="line-height:normal">Automate reporting and improve data accuracy and accessibility</li><li style="line-height:normal">Implement KPIs and dashboards for project performance and shop productivity</li></ul>7. Leadership & Cross-Functional Collaboration<ul style="list-style-type:disc"><li style="line-height:normal">Lead and mentor the accounting team</li><li style="line-height:normal">Collaborate with operations, sales, and project management to align financial and operational goals</li><li style="line-height:normal">Act as a financial business partner to support decision-making across the organization</li></ul><hr/>QUALIFICATIONS<ul style="list-style-type:disc;padding-left:72px"><li>CPA or CMA designation preferred</li><li>Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field</li><li>Minimum 7 years of progressive accounting/finance experience, with at least 3 years in a controller or senior accounting role</li><li>Experience in a manufacturing environment is required; cabinet or millwork experience is a strong asset</li><li>Proficiency with ERP systems (e.g., Epicor, Sage, Microsoft Dynamics) and Microsoft Excel</li><li>Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills</li><li>Ability to thrive in a dynamic, hands-on, and entrepreneurial environment</li></ul>WORK CONDITIONS<ul style="list-style-type:disc;padding-left:72px"><li>Full Time</li><li>In Person – Sioux Falls, SD</li><li>Travel within the United States upwards of 1-2 Days a month</li></ul>COMPENSATION& PERKS<ul style="list-style-type:disc;padding-left:72px"><li>Annual Salary commensurate with experience</li><li>Accrued paid time off starting on the first day</li><li>Health, Dental, Vision and Life Insurance</li><li>401k with company match</li><li>No state income tax</li></ul> #hc239885

This is a senior role with real authority and real accountability — you'll lead the Accounting team, own the month-end close, and serve as the financial backbone of a company that moves fast and expects precision. WHAT YOU WILL OWN:? The close. Month-end, year-end, accruals, reconciliations — done accurately and on schedule, every time. ? The team. You'll lead and develop the Accounting team, set the standard, and build capacity that scales with the company. ? Internal controls.
