Flight Mechanics (FM) must be able to read and interpret engineering drawings, technical manuals, structure repair manuals, and wiring diagrams, including the understanding of symbols, flags, and general notes; and identify aircraft locations by fuselage station, waterline, butt-line, as depicted on engineering drawings, documentation, and technical publications. This includes generally recognized tasks related to the mechanic’s work on or about the aircraft, and support equipment, such as performing maintenance repairs, scheduling, maintaining work areas and inventories, calibrated items, reporting faulty equipment, required paperwork completion, inspections, testing, parts ordering, and maintaining manuals.
