Prepares stains and slides for reading by Cytotechnologist or review by the Pathologist. </p></div><div class="OutlineElement Ltr SCXW22549187 BCX0" style="font-size:12px;font-weight:400"><p class="Paragraph SCXW22549187 BCX0">ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS </p></div><div class="OutlineElement Ltr SCXW22549187 BCX0" style="font-size:12px;font-weight:400"><p class="Paragraph SCXW22549187 BCX0"/><ul><li>Stains, mounts, and studies cells of human body to detect evidence of cancer, hormonal abnormalities and other pathological conditions, following established standards and practices: Prepares microscopic slides from specimens of blood, scrapings, or other bodily exudates and fixes stains and slide to preserve specimen and enhance visibility of cells under microscope. </li><li>Examine cell samples to detect abnormal hormone conditions. </li><li>Examine cell samples to detect abnormalities in the color, shape, or size of cellular components and patterns. </li><li>Evaluate cells for the presence of cancer, precancerous changes, or infections. </li><li>Prepare and analyze samples, such as Papanicolaou (PAP) smear body fluids and fine needle aspirations (FNAs) to detect abnormal conditions. </li><li>Provide patient clinical data or microscopic findings to assist pathologists in the preparation of pathology reports. </li><li>Assist Pathologists or other physicians to collect cell samples such as by fine needle aspiration (FNA) biopsies. </li><li>Quality Assurance in the laboratory including the maintenance of the systemin accordance with the requirements of the College of the American Pathologists and preparation for site visits. </li><li>Prepare slides and reports in a timely fashion, ensuring Q.C. are met. </li><li>Maintain procedures and records to meet all regulatory standards. </li><li>Perform other duties as necessary for efficient operation of the department. </li><li>Actively seeks ways to control costs without compromising patient safety, quality of care or the services delivered. </li><li>Demonstrates knowledge of the occurrence reporting system. Uses system to report potential patient safety issues. </li><li>Follows established guidelines for reporting a significant medical error or unanticipated outcome in the patient’s care which results in patient harm. </li><li>Attends in-service presentations and completes all mandatory education requirements. Uses Performance Improvement Plan to improve patient safety. </li><li>Regular, Punctual and dependable
