Responsibilities:
<div><strong>What you get to do every day:</strong></div><ul><li>Support users executing computational workloads on secure HPC clusters in classified and unclassified environments</li><li>Assist with scheduler job scripts and application execution on systems such as Slurm or PBS, including CPU, GPU, and distributed workloads</li><li>Troubleshoot slow, hanging, or failing HPC jobs, including MPI-based, GPU, and large-scale parallel applications</li><li>Guide users on compiling and running scientific, modeling, or data processing applications in Linux HPC environments</li><li>Promote HPC best practices for job scheduling, resource allocation, and workload performance</li><li>Monitor workload patterns and recommend improvements to cluster throughput and efficiency</li><li>Develop scripts and tools using Bash or Python to automate operational tasks</li><li>Maintain documentation and knowledge base articles on system capabilities, job execution procedures, and troubleshooting</li><li>Analyze workload performance to identify inefficiencies or configuration issues</li><li>Coordinate with HPC systems engineers on infrastructure or cluster issues impacting user workloads</li><li>Provide responsive on-site support for mission-critical HPC workloads</li><li>Maintain source-controlled scripts and tools using Git or similar version control systems</li><li>Assist users with environment modules and runtime configurations required for HPC applications</li></ul>

Qualifications:
<div><div><div><p style="margin:0px"><strong>Clearance Required: </strong>Active TS clearance (with SCI Eligibility)</p><p style="margin:0px"> </p><p style="margin:0px"><strong>Certification Required: </strong>Ability to obtain DoD 8140 (8570) IAT Level II certification</p><p style="margin:0px"> </p><p style="margin:0px"><strong>Education/Experience: </strong></p><ul><li>BS degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related STEM field (or experience in lieu of degree)</li><li>5+ years of Linux experience including command line system usage, scripting, and troubleshooting applications in multi-user server environments.</li></ul></div><div><strong>Required Skills:<br/></strong></div></div><ul><li>Professional experience administering or supporting Linux systems via command line (RHEL derivatives preferred)</li><li>Experience developing scripts using Bash, Python, or similar languages</li><li>Experience troubleshooting software execution issues in distributed computing environments</li><li>Working knowledge of job schedulers such as Slurm, PBS, Torque, or similar platforms</li><li>Experience supporting users in technical computing or engineering environments</li><li>Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills</li><li>Ability to clearly communicate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical users</li></ul><p style="margin:0px"><strong>What is ideal?</strong></p></div><ul><li>Experience as a user or administrator of HPC clusters</li><li>Experience with parallel computing frameworks (MPI, OpenMP, or CUDA-based GPU workloads)</li><li>Experience supporting scientific or engineering applications requiring large-scale compute resources</li><li>Experience using performance monitoring and optimization tools for compute workloads</li><li>Experience compiling applications in C, C++, Fortran, or Python environments</li><li>Experience working in classified computing environments</li><li>Experience supporting GPU-enabled workloads</li></ul>

- Configures and deploys new/replacement Linux(REDHAT) and Windows Operating
Systems Servers.

- Configures and deploys new/replacement desktop/laptop computer equipment and

- Maintains up-to-date project and architecture documentation.

- Maintains up-to-date inventory and maintenance records.

- Monitors system resources for server/service anomalies.

- Resolves connection issues between users and resources.

The System Administrator is responsible for effective provisioning,
installation/configuration, operation, and maintenance of computer hardware and
software and related infrastructure. This individual ensures that system
hardware, operating systems, software systems, and related procedures adhere to
Commonwealth policies, standards, and guidelines. Responsibilities include
systems administration engineering and provisioning, operations and support,
maintenance and research and development to ensure continual innovation. Install
new / rebuild existing servers and configure hardware, peripherals, services,
settings, directories, storage, etc. in accordance with standards and
project/operational requirements. Perform daily system monitoring, verifying the
integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems and key
processes, reviewing system and application logs, and verifying completion of
scheduled jobs such as backups. Perform regular security monitoring to identify
any possible intrusions. Perform daily backup operations and regular file
archival and purge as necessary. Create, change, and delete user accounts per
request. Provide Tier III/other support per request from various constituencies.
Investigate and troubleshoot issues. Diagnose and recover from hardware or
software failures. Coordinate and communicate with impacted constituencies.
Apply OS patches and upgrades on a regular basis, and upgrade administrative
tools and utilities. Configure / add new services as necessary. Upgrade and
configure system software that supports GIS infrastructure applications or Asset
Management applications per project or operational needs. Maintain operational,
configuration, or other procedures. Perform periodic performance reporting to
support capacity planning. Perform ongoing performance tuning, hardware
upgrades, and resource optimization as required. Configure CPU, memory, and disk
partitions as required.
