Overview:
Herzog Railroad Services, Inc. is currently seeking a Laborer in St. Joseph, MO to join our team. The General Laborer supports daily operations across the railcar maintenance shop, fabrication shop, and track support areas. This role performs a variety of general labor tasks, assists skilled trades personnel, supports rail switching operations, and ensures shop and yard areas remain safe and organized.  Duties and Responsibilities:*This is a non-exhaustive overview of the job duties for this position.<ul style="margin-top:0in;margin-bottom:0in"><li style="margin-bottom:0in;margin-top:0in;line-height:normal;margin-right:0in;font-size:12pt;font-family:'aptos' , sans-serif">Assist welders, fitters, and mechanics with railcar and fabrication shop tasks. </li></ul><ul style="margin-top:0in;margin-bottom:0in"><li style="margin-bottom:0in;margin-top:0in;line-height:normal;margin-right:0in;font-size:12pt;font-family:'aptos' , sans-serif">Perform groundwork including coupling/uncoupling cars, and properly aligning switches.</li><li style="margin-bottom:0in;margin-top:0in;line-height:normal;margin-right:0in;font-size:12pt;font-family:'aptos' , sans-serif">Complete pre- start up switch engine inspection and recognize problems and complete daily checklist.</li><li style="margin-bottom:0in;margin-top:0in;line-height:normal;margin-right:0in;font-size:12pt;font-family:'aptos' , sans-serif">Safely operate the switch engine including start-up/shut down.</li><li style="margin-bottom:0in;margin-top:0in;line-height:normal;margin-right:0in;font-size:12pt;font-family:'aptos' , sans-serif">Perform basic switch engine maintenance (e.g., changing brake shoes, adjusting air brake piston travel). </li><li style="margin-bottom:0in;margin-top:0in;line-height:normal;margin-right:0in;font-size:12pt;font-family:'aptos' , sans-serif">Adhere to safety rules of switching outside and inside the shop.</li><li style="margin-bottom:0in;margin-top:0in;line-height:normal;margin-right:0in;font-size:12pt;font-family:'aptos' , sans-serif">Assist with track maintenance (driving spikes, lubing switches, tighten joint bars, and recognize needed track maintenance).</li><li style="margin-bottom:0in;margin-top:0in;line-height:normal;margin-right:0in;font-size:12pt;font-family:'aptos' , sans-serif">Maintain an organized storage yard and safe work environment.</li><li style="margin-bottom:0in;margin-top:0in;line-height:normal;margin-right:0in;font-size:12pt;font-family:'aptos' , sans-serif">Operate forklifts, overhead cranes, and hand tools safely. </li><li style="margin-bottom:0in;margin-top:0in;line-height:normal;margin-right:0in;font-size:12pt;font-family:'aptos' , sans-serif">Perform general shop cleaning, material handling, and basic fabrication support (cutting, grinding, drilling, prepping). </li><li style="margin-bottom:0in;margin-top:0in;line-height:normal;margin-right:0in;font-size:12pt;font-family:'aptos' , sans-serif">Handle scrap, waste, and recyclable materials per company safety and environmental guidelines. </li><li style="margin-bottom:0in;margin-top:0in;line-height:normal;margin-right:0in;font-size:12pt;font-family:'aptos' , sans-serif">Work overtime as the need arises.</li><li style="margin-bottom:0in;margin-top:0in;line-height:normal;margin-right:0in;font-size:12pt;font-family:'aptos' , sans-serif">Regular and sans-serif">High school diploma or equivalent.</li><li style="margin-bottom:0in;margin-top:0in;line-height:normal;margin-right:0in;font-size:12pt;font-family:'aptos' , sans-serif">Previous industrial, mechanical, or rail experience a plus. </li><li style="margin-bottom:0in;margin-top:0in;line-height:normal;margin-right:0in;font-size:12pt;font-family:'aptos' , sans-serif">Ability to work in various indoor/outdoor environments.</li><li style="margin-bottom:0in;margin-top:0in;line-height:normal;margin-right:0in;font-size:12pt;font-family:'aptos' , sans-serif">Basic mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn rail and shop processes. </li><li style="margin-bottom:0in;margin-top:0in;line-height:normal;margin-right:0in;font-size:12pt;font-family:'aptos' , sans-serif">Strong safety awareness and adherence to procedures. </li><li style="margin-bottom:0in;margin-top:0in;line-height:normal;margin-right:0in;font-size:12pt;font-family:'aptos' , sans-serif">Ability to work independently and in a team environment. </li><li style="margin-bottom:0in;margin-top:0in;line-height:normal;margin-right:0in;font-size:12pt;font-family:'aptos' , sans-serif">Basic hand and power tool knowledge. </li><li style="margin-bottom:0in;margin-top:0in;line-height:normal;margin-right:0in;font-size:12pt;font-family:'aptos' , sans-serif">Dependability, adaptability, and strong work
