Duties & Responsibilities: Plan, create and deliver daily lesson plans emphasizing sports-related skills, movement patterns, games and fitness activities; Establish and enforce student rules of conduct focused on the intellectual, physical, social and emotional development of students; Introduce elements of strength, endurance and flexibility into physical education teaching and activities; Provide instruction using a variety of teaching methods to meet the needs of students with diverse learning styles and varying needs/interests; Prepare equipment and materials for physical education activities; Observe, assess and communicate student progress (academic, behavioral, social, physical); Manage student behavior and employ positive behavior practices to drive culture/climate; Ensure individual well-being and safety is incorporated into teaching and activities; Foster positive student attitudes toward physical activity and fitness; Support continuous growth and improvement in student physical fitness assessments at the school, state and national levels, as requested; Actively participate in wide variety of school day and extracurricular events as planned, including activities centered around professional development; Facilitation of a school-wide Field Day event; Plan enrichment activities for small groups of students each day; Responsibly fulfill additional duties as assigned. Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree; Current Connecticut Teacher Elementary Certification (044 Physical Education, Pre-K to 12); Prior experience working with elementary students is preferred; Excellent oral communication and interpersonal skills; Ability to work cooperatively with other colleagues in the building and throughout the school district; Ability to handle and treat information confidentially; Ability to relate effectively with staff, parents, students and the public; Ability to plan and organize work schedule and set priorities; Ability to work independently and professionally; Ability to motivate students, inspire trust and confidence in students, while working with patience and understanding.
