This position is non-exempt and is allocated to the Administrative, Technical, and Clerical Bargaining Unit. The list established as a result of this recruitment may be used to fill other Engineering Technician I/II vacancies that may occur within the District through May 5, 2027.</p><br/><p><strong>Distinguishing Characteristics</strong></p><br/><p><strong>Engineering Technician I </strong>This is the entry level class in the Engineering Technician series. Positions in this class typically have little or no directly related work experience. The Engineering Technician I class is distinguished from the II level by the performance of less than the full range of duties assigned to the II level. Incumbents work under immediate supervision while learning job tasks, progressing to direction as procedures and processes of assigned area of responsibility are learned.</p><br/><p> </p><br/></dd><br/><dt><br/><h2>Examples of Duties</h2><br/></dt><br/><dd><br/><p> </p><br/><p>Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:</p><br/><ul><li><br/></li><li>Prepare, maintain and revise detailed drawings, maps, blueprints, files, records, tags, schematics, graphs and summaries per instructions, through the use of computers, CADD programs and other associated equipment;</li><li><br/></li><li>Conduct periodic and final inspection of construction projects performed by outside developers and contractors.</li><li><br/></li><li>Calculate estimates of relocation costs and coordinate construction projects with outside contractors and District construction crews; and monitor contracts with outside contractors and prepare billings as needed.</li><li><br/></li><li>Prepare engineering reports and studies and job packages.</li><li><br/></li><li>Determine, review, and administer requirements for service to specific plans, annexations, residential tracts and commercial and industrial developments.</li><li><br/></li><li>Assist with surveying field work including but not limited to staking for irrigation, electrical construction, and right-of-way.</li><li><br/></li><li>Prepare work authorizations.</li><li><br/></li><li>Make engineering calculations; take flow measurements on canal and stream channels; draft and design District facilities.</li><li><br/></li><li>Close and audit work orders and WBO's.</li><li><br/></li><li>Make field inspections ensuring District rules, regulations, and standards are adhered to.</li><li><br/></li><li>Maintain files and prepare reports.</li><li><br/></li><li>Provide technical direction and training for other department personnel.</li><li><br/></li><li>Build and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers, other District employees, outside agencies and the public using principles of good customer service.</li><li><br/></li><li>Perform related duties as assigned.</li><li><br/></li></ul><br/><p> </p><br/></dd><br/><dt><br/><h2>Typical Qualifications</h2><br/></dt><br/><dd><br/><p> </p><br/><p>Any combination of experience and training that would provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.
