SCHEDULE: 183 Days, Follows school calendarThis position will remain posted until filled. All qualified and interested applicants are encouraged to apply.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Provides direct instruction for English Language Learners (ELL) for part of the instructional day, including:
• Developing and delivering standards-based lessons designed to support English language acquisition and academic achievement
• Planning, coordinating, and team-teaching the instruction program according to the adopted curriculum for a junior-senior high school English classroom
• Collaborating with general education teachers to support English Learners in content-area classes and ensures appropriate instructional accommodations and modifications
• Developing and implementing Individual Learning Plans (ILPs) or other required documentation for English Learners in accordance with state and federal guidelines
• Administering required language proficiency tests (WIDA) for determining placement in grades 7-12
• Monitoring student progress in English language proficiency and academic growth utilizing assessment data to inform instructions
• Demonstrating effective classroom management and instructional skills to ensure a positive learning environment
• Implementing appropriate lesson plans and adapting teaching strategies to meet the needs of diverse learners, including multilingual students
• Communicating effectively with students, families, and staff regarding student progress and program expectationsPlease note that the teaching load will primarily be EL, but English teaching duties will be included occasionally, depending upon student scheduling needs.JOB SPECIFICATIONS:Education, Training, and Experience Required:
• Bachelors Degree minimum
• Valid Indiana certification/licensure in English Learner (EL) instruction or willingness to obtain EL certification prior to start date
• Valid Indiana Secondary Teachers License in English or willingness to obtain
• Displays excellent communication skills and professional demeanor
• Experience working in a school environment preferred
• Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Worker Characteristics:

Qualifications<ul><li>Valid Indiana Teaching License in English Language Arts</li><li>Bachelors Degree from an accredited college or university</li></ul>Position Purpose
Under the general supervision of the School Principal to:<ul><li>Develop students skills in listening, speaking, reading, and writing.</li><li>Foster communication skills.</li><li>Develop an understanding and appreciation of literature of all types.</li><li>Motivate students to read a wide variety of publications to derive information.</li><li>Comprehend and critically assess reading materials.</li><li>Promote the development of skills in the field of English, reading, grammar, and syntax.</li></ul>Essential Functions<ul><li>Develops and administers English education curriculum consistent with school district goals and objectives.</li><li>Promotes a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small group instruction and student learning.</li><li>Develops lesson plans and instructional materials and translates lesson plans into learning experiences to develop pertinent sequential assignments, challenge students, and best utilize the available time for instruction.</li><li>Teaches knowledge and skills in English grammar and syntax, sentence and paragraph structure, composition, vocabulary, and proper word usage, word denotations and connotations, creative writing, independent thinking, communication, and speaking.</li><li>Develops standards for critical analysis through group discussions on a variety of reading materials, including the mass media and a wide range of literature.</li><li>Works with students and others to prepare materials for inclusion in literary publications, contests, etc.</li><li>Conducts ongoing assessment of student learning and progress and modifies instructional methods to fit individual students needs, including students with special needs.</li><li>Maintains familiarity with district and Connecticut State standardized tests for the purpose of adapting curriculum to maximize student achievement on such tests.</li><li>Continues to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops, or professional meetings, or by conducting research.</li><li>Organizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping, grading, and reporting for all student activities, achievement, and attendance as required by district procedures and applicable laws.</li><li>Encourages parental involvement in students education and ensures effective communication with students and parents.</li><li>Ensures that student conduct conforms to the schools standards and school district policies and establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.</li><li>Coordinates with other professional staff members, especially within grade level, and participates in faculty meetings and committees.</li><li>Selects and requisitions appropriate books, instructional aids, and other supplies and equipment and maintains inventory records.</li></ul>Additional Duties<ul><li>Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.</li></ul>Note
