Opportunities for collaboration exist with the Atmospheric and Environmental Sciences program (https://www.sdsmt.edu/AES) and with multi-disciplinary centers across campus, including the Data Driven Materials Discovery Center, the Composites and Polymer Engineering Laboratory (CAPE; https://www.sdsmt.edu/research-innovation/research-facilities/cape/index.html), the Surface Engineering Research Center (SERC) in the area of Materials and Manufacturing, the NSF-funded 2D-materials for Biofilm Engineering Science and Technology (2D-BEST) Center, and the recently awarded NSF NRT program, Training Scientists to Solve Biofilm Challenges Using Artificial Intelligence and Smart Materials. In the area of biofilms, smart materials, and AI, convergent research is ongoing through the Biochemical Spatiotemporal NeTwork Resource (Bio-SNTR) and the Sanford Underground Research Facility (SURF) in the area of life and environmental sciences; and the NSF-funded consortium Advancing Quality and weather-ready Water Management with Community Partnerships and Enhanced Sensor Network in the area of water and extreme-weather resilience.
